Dinan Once Built a Supercharged BMW 7-Series and It's Kind of Bonkers

My friend called me up to check out an old E32 BMW 740i he purchased, and then told me what was done to it.
Turns out, when you bore/stroke the engine, throw a supercharger and cams at it, swap the automatic for a six-speed manual, and swap the rear end for a 3.64 limited slip... the car's character changes quite a bit.
Sorry for the lousy audio outside, wind and no lapel mic don't mix. I'll fix that in the future.

Love the backwards opening hood, reminds me of my E23 733i that I used to have, the backwards opening hood is one of my favorite car features (literally, every car had it, from Corvettes to Vipers to some BMWs) it's pretty awesome.

I have an e32 730i from 1993 with m30 engine, manual transmission and very rare highline interior. Really nice car, the highline version was never sold in USA

in Europe Alpina had built a TwinTurbo E32 735i with 450 HP and over 500NM of torque. Limited run of 25 pieces. Very rare and not well known

My dad had a dinan 750i in iran at thetime that it was new. It got stolen and we found it totalled😪🤧

About the rear seatbelts its the best thing ever when you need to help kids in the backseats. Probably good for for rescuing in a accident to.

LOVE E32s!!!!!! Do you have a BHP estimate?Must be 400+? This would be sick on the V12! The more OEM the better. My dad had a manual E32 730i and a manual E24 628i and an 1996 Facelift E34 525i auto and an E39 530i manual among others here in the UK. WISH he kept some of them! That facelifted 1996 E34 525i was a very special car! Wish he kept it so badly. I have a 2002 E46 325i Sport and it's fun :-)

The E32 did come with a manual transmission for the 735 only. Was made from 1988 model then quietly discontinued in mid 1990 model year.

The e32 came with 5 speed manual gearbox from the factory in 730 l6, 735 l6 and 730 v8 versions. 730, 735 had 4 speed auto with the 750 also, the 730 v8 & 740 came with 5 speed auto, for 740 5 speed auto being the only choice as for the 750 4 speed auto being the only gearbox choice.

Yes, the 735i was offered as a manual in the U.S. market for one year only, 1988.

@@francispowell1811 There WERE 1989 and a few 1990 manual 735s (inline six M30 engine). Just because you haven't seen them doesn't mean they don't exist.

Jake - thank you for shooting this video. What a great car, and great video. I have a huge favor to ask - i'm putting the M Parallels on my E32, I'm wondering if you don't mind asking your friend what size tires he put on his. In 2001, the Sport E38 got 235/50-18 in front and 255/45-18 in the rear, but please let me know if he did something different for the E32. Appreciate it very much. -Nick

The E32 uses E34 tire sizes, so either 235/40/18F 265/35/18R or 245/40/18F 275/35/18R

And the in board seat belts are also design to help first responders as well to cut people out quicker verses the responder reaching over you

Not a fan of the aftermarket clear parking lamps - these were never offered on the E32 in Europe or the US. Sounds and looks great otherwise. Nice review. Never seen a Dinan E32 740.

I’m sorry but I still do t get why the seatbelt coming around one way other other affects how you’d be gripped in the back seat, and how it prevents bonking into the other passenger any differently lol.

Passengers in the back do not hit their heads in an accident, and it is also easier for firefighters to free passengers, due to the arrangement of the seat belt.

Thank you. You're right... clear parking-lamp/blinkers, were never offered on the E32 in Europe or US. Late model E34s, like the M5 in Europe, it was a special-order accessory. But never seen in any BMW photos. Not a fan of them.
