@@erics8192 Absolutely agree. Yet, the public discussion focussed a lot to sustainability and environmental friendlyness in Germany at the time. The big three manufacturers (VW/Audi, BMW, Merc) came under a lot of pressure. This was at its peak with the defeat device scandal and later with the "Friday for Future" protests. I always thought this was a very hollow discussion, because maybe left leaning elites thought like this, but the majority of the people dont wished for a 3 cylinder high performance sportscar. And the rich elites would rather buy a Tesla or a Fisker. Or a Porsche SUV. lol The i3 and the i8 were flagship projects. A show off of technology and capability. They were constructed mostly out of carbon fiber, which was also to save the carbon fiber manufacturer in the portfolio of Susanne Klatten (she owns roughly 12% of the BMW group). Another Camisa and Hagerty home run. I do remember this car. I was a kid when this came out. Car and Driver did a comparison befween it and the flared hip 928 GTS. The Porsche won. I want both!

I started watching Jason due to these fantastic series. I’m from Australia and had no idea who he was. I Really thought he was doing some great work but didn’t think much more of it and honestly kinda thought he’s good but so are many other KZbin presenters. Then the whole cyber truck incident happened. Watching him talk on Matt’s pod cast really opened my eyes to his talents and abilities to stay factual under pressure. Jason you’re an a++ journalist and sadly a dying bread. thanks for producing fantastic content that I can trust and is entertaining.

17:20 you hear similar sound to the McLaren, although you can tell it has not been tuned to perfection like the F1. Still nice though.

Fantastic video. That 850CSI is a PERFECT car. Stunning design and proportions. No words for how good it looks. THANK YOU for the driving portion at the end.

Thank you for the extended in-car footage with the glorious sound of that V12 at full song. Breathtaking.

Can I just say that we need more Hagerty videos with Jason and german cars? His german accent cracks me up 😂

Either BMW has lost its design edge or all other manufacturers have finally caught up, because they simply don't make cars as beautiful or timeless as the 90s and early 2000s!

I'd argue you on the m8 gran coupe, f8x m4, and if they put that m4 csl front bumper on the regular m4s thats my case for that at least.

Blame whomever hired Chris Bangle instead of encouraging him to apply his “talents” at Pontiac instead.

Great video Mr Cammisa! And I love this whole format and style. As a kid who grew up nerding out on documentaries. I love the Bill Nye, or Alton Brown type approach you take to explaining the technical aspects in an entertaining way. I can also appreciate that I was too young when this car came out to understand what made it so special. Thanks Jason, and more of this content please!

Jason, You need to do this type of video more often... There's no one like you doing this work.

The only E31 M8 in existence is the prototype in the BMW museum. Either you're confusing this with the recent M8 production car or you're confusing it with the E31 850CSI of which BMW only made around 1,510 of, all six speed manuals. Genuine M vehicles start with WBS in the VIN. It's not uncommon for an M wannabe to affix a fake M badge to a non M BMW.
