Hi everyone! Unfortunately this video has recently been claimed by CBS and they’ve blocked it in 90% of countries, so if you got here via VPN that’s what happened. Penn’s always been quite forward about how he’s okay with people posting their stuff online but I guess CBS disagrees? I cba disputing it. Anyway thanks for the notification spam over the years, it kept me very entertained and engaged 😎 Maybe one day they’ll unblock it.

What I love about this trick is that there's really no "magical effect." Teller takes out and lights a cigarette. I mean, other than the apperance of the lemon, and the disappearance of the cig at the end, there's really nothing to see here, except how beautifully Teller can make something complex look simple.

It's the art of parable, using a simple and elegant example to thoroughly explain a simple concept. The point here is to convey that a very simple act can carry with it a deception, and embody all the principles behind that deception.

I figured out how Teller did the lemon trick. When he turns to show the audience that the red ball is in his right hand, he takes a lemon out of his suit pocket and palms it in his left hand. When he drops the ball into his left hand, it is above the lemon. He then tosses the lemon into his right hand at the end, palming the ball and ditching it in his pocket. If you pause at around 1:57, you can see the lemon drop into his hand Hope this helps

We live on information high way now with the Internet, almost no one believes that magic is "real" or Santa Clause still exists or The Tooth Fairy is The Rock, remember, that Mickey Mouse is just a Mexican in a suit, that 6ft rat ain't real either. Exposing the trick is just showing off their mastery of the art and their skill and technique to be appreciated, I personally like it since it doesn't insult the audiences intelligence but it still gets you to think, also Teller does that final trick at the end which was the punchline, so not everything is revealed.

I know a lot of their thing (especially Penn) is to demystify magic in a way, but I think it's such an important touch that every once in a while Teller does something truly cool and mesmerizing, even if just because it makes you think about all the tricks of magic they just taught you and attempt to apply your newfound knowledge. always liked how Teller has a little more of that old-school magician flair than Penn who's a lot more blunt, comedic, and in-your-face. I'll never forget seeing him rub his hands together in a fishbowl to turn gold coins into real, living goldfish. or seeing him cut the shadow of a plant with a knife and the real plant's leaves get severed. and he does it all without saying a single word! love his humble little smile too.

Penn will be the first to admit Teller is the magical genius of the duo. Penn has said as much over and over in interviews. Teller's silence comes from performing in front of rowdy audiences. He found that by not speaking the hecklers would eventually shut up and pay attention to the performance.
@SRN_RL
@SRN_RL 7 жыл бұрын
Penn would agree with you but I think he definitely serves a purpose in the duo. He's the charismatic one (lol, most of the time) and makes the show much more engaging. He does a lot more of the physical feats too (juggling broken bottles, etc.)
@Richard_is_cool
@Richard_is_cool 7 жыл бұрын
+Sieran the Fox Oh yes... Maybe, maybe Penn never did any magical trick at all... I'd have to check all the footage for that and it's a strong claim. But maybe he's only doing all the mundane things (albeit tough ones, like juggling), while Teller is doing all the important bits. They still work together so well.
@guyfawkes9951
@guyfawkes9951 7 жыл бұрын
Penn refers to himself as "Carny Trash" and, when asked, says he's a juggler. Penn is good in his own right and certainly does "magic" as well, but Teller is in a class by himself when it comes to sleight of hand and illusions. Penn is an excellent front man and stage presence. I mean, what better misdirection could a quiet, 5'9" magician have than a loud 6'6" partner???

That was so, so clever. Moments later, Penn describes "misdirection", while Teller points. And it seems, after close inspection, that Teller isn't actually doing anything other than pointing. So it's like super-misdirection. They misdirect our attention not from a specific point on the screen, but from a specific point in time. The more strongly we are focusing, the less time we can focus for. If we know exactly when to do it, we might catch it. But Penn establishes that we can trust him to tell us when to really pay attention, and when it's safe to let our guard down. Bringing it up _after_ the fact is a bit of a flex. I love it. These two are such fantastic showmen. And I just love how the "effect", if you're not paying attention to the illusion, isn't some impressive thing. He stomped out a cigarette and lit a new one, it seems. Nothing spectacular or out of the ordinary.
