wow that was unexpected, engine vs human decisions - fascinating!

Great analysis. While watching the match, I couldn't understand where exactly Gukesh went wrong. but as you pointed out, his best moves that he needed to play were moves that would be very difficult for a human to see and play.

I have watched the live game and tons of reviews of this game. This has been the best and most instructive. I can't thank you enough and can't wait for the Game 2 review!

So Rapport is in Ding Liren team, so French should be expected! This game reminded me a lot the famous Kasparov 0-1 Ivanchuk (1995) where white seemed to have a great position to attack black castle... but Chuky just played on the queenside, destroyed white position and finally castled to get a win!

Hey, Arturs, very nice recap here 👌...Your video explanations really make chess easy to understand 👍Black got ALOT of counter play here that seemed unnecessary 🤔. I'm about to purchase the latest-and-greatest Tarrasch French on Chessable and after watching the preview of the above-mentioned course, I was hoping that Gukesh would wheel out the Tarrasch.

I can only think of possibly 2 times the defending champion declared himself the underdog. 1) Capablanca vs Lasker. 2) Possibly Alekhine vs Euwe, the rematch. I would need to research the Alekhine-Euwe rematch. Posted for the algorithm.

Spassky knew he was the underdog but he didnt say it. KGB guys with him would not be happy about that. Lasker admitted explicitely that Capa was the real WC. Not sure about Euwe.

Gukesh’s big mistake was missing.. Bc5 (preventing Black from castling) followed up by the killer Queen sac.. Qxh2! as Black can’t reply RxQ because if his weak back rank Black then gets mated by Rf8#! Anyway, good to see Ding is back in form. Seems his playing “possum” fooled the world! lol! People for getting that the “Art of War” was written by a Chinese philosopher who counseled that one should always mislead one’s opponent to overestimate their chances.
@GMNeiksansАй бұрын
@@Ebobster Yes, he missed a big chance for counterplay there but he was still worse.
@EbobsterАй бұрын
@ Your comments about both b4 & g4 are spot on, tho both have a superficial logic bottom line is Ding took Gukesh into offbeat double edged positions in which he was better prepped than Gukesh. I believe this game will go into books on the French… really liked as you noted a5-a4 march before deciding placement of pieces. Appreciate your comment as this is modern trend (inspired I suppose by AlphaZero) as response gives clues as to where one’s pieces should go. As one who wrestles with developing quickly & not making too many early pawn moves, your comment makes lots of sense since center is locked. Anyway, THANK YOU GM Neiksans for your really excellent game commentary, & completing it so quickly. WC is a battle of ideas & prep; Ding earned this win. Cheers!
