LOVE! Your table came out beautiful! So, I bought a kitchen table that I didn't know before I stripped it had MANY knots. I knew they would eventually bleed through and turn the top coat yellow. So, I read that sealing it with Shellac will illuminate the yellowing. I bought interior eggshell enamel paint and primer. to put on the top of the table. It is a kitchen table that will be used a lot. I know they will use placemats but I would like to put a matt finish top coat on. What are your thoughts?

I love how beautifully this table turned out! Great job! I do have a question: why did you use the shellac before the wash and the paint?
@DIYDecorDiary2 жыл бұрын
Thank you 🙏🏽 since I planned on using both water based products (the wash and the gel stain) I wanted to seal it but still be able to have some of the wood grain peeking through and without it being blotchy. Also this was a thin veneer and although not very visible, there were a couple of small spots on the overhang/side that looked a little weird, so I wanted to be safe and seal it. Thanks for watching 😊🤗

Wow! That is an amazing job, table looks stunning 🤩. Curious to why you used shellac before the white wash? I didn’t know you could do it. Thank you in advance for your reply 😁🙏🏼
@DIYDecorDiary Жыл бұрын
Thank you so much 😊 This table top was a veneer and as you know when sanding veneer you can easily make the surface vulnerable. There were a few spots that appeared different almost as though it was “blown through” but not quite. I used the shellac to seal it and add a layer of protection. That way the entire surface will be even (so some parts won’t absorb differently and look different) and because it’s clear I got the benefit of having some of the wood grain show through. I hope I explained it clearly 😅😅 🫶🏽
@melissapoole8580 Жыл бұрын
Gorgeous! Did I see that you used shellac on the top too, before paint washing and staining? Thanks!!
@DIYDecorDiary Жыл бұрын
Thank you 😊 Yes this is a wood veneer top that I found some spots to look a bit compromised so I sealed the whole thing with shellac that way I didn’t get the wash “absorbing” more in certain areas but a nice even finish. 😊😊

I absolutely love how this turned out. Do you know what type of wood the top is? I have a MCM Heywood-Wakefield table (birch) I may try this technique on. I have very much wanted to try the Lilly Moon gel stains as well. I'm so glad I found your video!
@DIYDecorDiary Жыл бұрын
Hey! Thank you 😊 It’s a veneer but not sure of wood type, it had a pinkish/red undertone which is why I did the paint wash first so I had a more “neutral” base before adding the gel stain. MCM generally are veneers (not all but it’s common from that period) so you have to be careful when sanding to not blow through. Thanks for watching 🙏🏽😊🫶🏽
