The problem with whitewashing using diluted water based paint is that if it's warm out or you are doing large surfaces, areas can dry before you wipe it off, causing splotches and streaks (especially on woods like cherry and Mahagony). What works better is Varathane oil based stain in antique white. Wipe it on, wait two minutes, wipe if off. It dries in one hour and is ready for topcoat.

I don't usually like those chunky, squarish 1970s legs, but after you'd worked your usual magic the whole thing looked sleek and elegant, like some kind of scandinavian piece! More great work, and thank you for sharing your videos, which always cheer up my day! kindest regards, k (p.s. nothing to do with the video or the furniture, but your haircut looked sleek and elegant too)

Loved the finish. I have a small table, similar to yours. You have given me the perfect solution for my project. Also, thank you for showing us the difference between the first sanding with 80 grit and the second 120 grit. Quite a transformation.

Oh my! So true circa 1985! I had a similar coffee table with a matching side table. I bought them along with a couch and loveseat with my tax refund for my second apartment! I was 25 and so proud to have been able to buy them new at Nebraska Furniture Mart.

Hi Katie, great channel you have! the coffee table is a big improvement over the yellowie color from before. Even thought I lived through the 80s white wash period and survived. I would like to ask you to try white vinegar and steel wool stain on a similar table next time. It gives a nice modern black finish while still highlighting the beautiful grain in oak.
