I am an African American grandmother. I was living in Dallas, Texas, 1968, and I was 20, when this was released. The first time I heard this on the radio....I just couldn't get enough of it! It was so melodic, so heart-wrenching.....and I just LOVE minor chords within a song. This was not being played on the R&B station, KNOK, at the time; so I would hunt through all the channels until I found a Country Western Station, or POP station so I could hear this gem. I have never forgotten this song. It tells such a beautiful story of love. RIP Mr. Campbell, from one 'crossover sister.'

Just talked about him on the news. I think the family had to put him under some kind of full time care now. There was a female and male talking about him. Idk if children or Niece and Nephew. I was asleep and part of one of his songs woke me up. Love Glen Campbells music. Anyway the reporter asked if he still plays the guitar and the male said he has a couple guitars in his room and can still play better than him on a bad day. Lol. Ok just read up on him. He is a resident at Nashville Memory Care and in the final stages of Alzheimers. So sad. We just lost Gene Wilder to it. I will confess though, this is my favorite Glen Campbell song. Driving to the farm with Dad as a kid in the seventies and this song came on. I fell in love with it then. It always reminds me of that memory and my childhood. And you are right, Glen is forever.

Even factoring in all the accolades he's received over the years, I still consider Glen Campbell to be so very underrated. A prolific entertainer; an incomparable singer with perfect diction, timing, pitch, and with a natural smoothness to his voice. One of the best guitar players there ever has been. A writer, an actor, a comedian, a host. He acted with John Wayne in True Grit, as well as sang the theme song. His talent was tremendous, a gift from God. I will miss him so much--

In 1967, I will never forget this. My mother took me grocery shopping in Santa Ana, Ca. to a Stater Brothers grocery store. I was only 10 years old. She asked me if there were any 'Albums" that I were interested in, I happened to say that I like Glen Campbell....She bought me 'Wichita Lineman". I took it home and played it on the family 'Motorola' stereo system. WL was the finest song that I have ever heard up to that point. To this day, I will never forget how totally awesome this song was!!!!

😂 You talking about the one on W. Edinger? I've been to that Stater Brothers plenty of times! Was my grandpa's only grocery stop until he died. In the 90's though! My mom said it had been there for as long as she could remember. Not sure about now, haven't been there in decades.

I remember listening to this song on the car radio when I was just a very little child, maybe 5 or 6 and it was a song that to this very day is one of my personal all-time favorites. I will be 60 in February and it’s funny how music can immediately transport you right back to that place and time; for me it’s long 12 hour road trips in the family car with my 4 older sisters, Mommy and Daddy, (yes, I’m southern) on a visit to my grandparents house. My parents are both gone now and 1 beautiful sister, too, but just for the few minutes of listening, they are all right here beside me and all is right with my world! Thank you Mr Campbell for helping keep my memories alive and to all the great music and musicians that truly ARE the soundtrack to our lives!
