Dinner at Chew Jetty Café Penang, humble hawker stalls serve delicious food near iconic tourist spot

In this video, our family heads out for a delightful dinner at Chew Jetty Café on Weld Quay in Georgetown, Penang. Chew Jetty is a well-known tourist spot during the day, but as the sun sets, it transforms into a local foodie haven. Starting at 3pm, a small hawker center opens just next to the entrance, serving up delicious Penang street food until midnight.
We arrived around 7:15pm, just in time to catch the beautiful sunset. Despite it being a weekday, the place was bustling with locals, adding to the vibrant atmosphere. We ordered a few of our favorites: the iconic char kway teow, which smelled absolutely incredible, and a comforting bowl of koay teow th'ng cooked in a flavorful chicken broth.
The char kway teow was a hit, packed with flavor and featuring two large, juicy prawns. The portion size was generous and left me fully satisfied. The kway teow th'ng, with its homemade fishballs and rich broth, was equally impressive.
After our hearty meal, we took a relaxing stroll down the iconic Chew Jetty. Most of the shops were closed, but it was a pleasure to experience the jetty without the usual crowds, enjoying the cool evening breeze after our hot meal.

Looks like visiting the Clan Jetties in the evening is better than the morning. But of course not much view of the sunrise of the Penang coastline. However, a lot more hawker stores available in the evening. Will attempt a makan trip in the evening on my next visit to Penang. Thanks for your recommendation.👍

Can try going around sunset (7-7.30pm) so you can get a good view of the seaside... after it gets dark, then go for dinner! :)

Of course at night the view is different... more "lau juak" in the day but also very hot! Maybe can go around sunset at 6.30-7.30pm to get a nice view, then have dinner after that.

I think it is undergoing renovation now. They are rebuilding the "moat" around the fort. It is next to Hameed Pata Mee Sotong which I visited one or two years ago.
