People don't realize that cucumbers and radishes especially absolutely wonderful when cooked.

That's right. If you squeeze the water out of cucumbers and put them in any stir-fry... makes it taste so good! Love the crunch!

Seeing other people's recipes are awesome too!! Love the dinner banchan series--it adds a lot of options that are easy for me to make for my meal prep.
@FutureNeighbor6 жыл бұрын
Oh, for sure. What kind of food do you usually meal prep? Asian food? I want to try soon as well.
@Alice4298006 жыл бұрын
Future Neighbor It's usually a lot of chicken breast!! When I'm lazy, I boil all of the chicken breasts at once and make a quick chicken salad with some seasoning and add some easy stir fried or steamed veggies ☺️; so banchans are a good way of mixing things up for me! And yes it's mostly Asian food or Asian inspired recipes like bulgolgi or Japanese curry and instead of rice I've been eating quinoa and cauliflower rice instead. I'm trying to keep my carbs low and my protein and fat content high so meal prep is a really good way for me to save money and eat healthier! 😊
@Alice4298006 жыл бұрын
Future Neighbor when I have a bit more time, I will do recipes for chicken thighs and make them with chicken breast instead for the same flavor profile even though they're not as juicy.

Also, I wish my family would be willing to try new things. Unfortunately they don't go beyond plain things. Like every night we have steak, asparagus, and potatoes D: They're so missing out on a world of flavors!

For anybody interested: i tried to make the cucumber-beef stir fry vegan! I worked with soy granulates (or TVP)! You need to soften in with hot water and some salt (or vegetable broth powder), then drain it when it's soft enough, then follow the rest of the recipe! (Soy granulates absorb flavour faster than meat, so you don't have to marinade as long, maybe a few minutes before you toss it into the pan)

You have come to my rescue!! I was visiting my parents this week and cucumbers are ripe in their garden so I went home with 3 cucumbers.. and now i'm trying to figure out how to eat all of those without making cucumer salad every single day. And I never considered frying cucumbers (it's just not something we do here in germany) but I will try this for sure!!

Everything looks so delicious!! Ever since I discovered your channel I've been cooking way more and trying out these wonderful recipes you provide. The only thing holding me back is the lack of ingredients I can get my hands on. :( I really want to try that soup...I doubt I'll be able to find fresh squid so I'll probably have to settle for pre-cut frozen squid. :( I hope that will still work!
@FutureNeighbor6 жыл бұрын
Oh, makes my day to hear that. Glad you're enjoying cooking more & more! You can use pre-cut frozen squid as well. But that Korean Radish (무) is a must-have. It adds that layer of 시원해-ness. Sorry for the Konglish heh

Is daikon radish an OK substitute for Korean radish?
@FutureNeighbor6 жыл бұрын
Hmm, it can be used. But Korean radish is filled with naturual juices - much more than daikon. So the broth will be heavier with daikon - you loose that 시원해-ness.

You think you can use courgette instead of cucumber?
@jeannette43656 жыл бұрын
Oh man! I am really craving some braised tofu now, sadly my local asian store fu**ed up their fresh batch q.q Also that cucumber dish looks so good! You can't really get asian pear here (neither fresh nor in juice form), but I got to try some asian pear sorbet which was so delicous and refreshing. Can't really compare that flavor to any other fruit I know ^^' Oh and I love the reshare Instagram and forum idea :D Kepp up the good work ^-^👍🏼
@FutureNeighbor6 жыл бұрын
Thanks Clyde! Woah... the Asian store actually makes their tofu in-house? Props to them - its quite an laborious process. And yes, a touch of pear (juice) to soy-sauce adds the right level of sweetness. I loved this cucumber recipe ‼️
@jeannette43656 жыл бұрын
Normal grocerie stores don't really sell tofu here, and if they happen to do their so called "tofu" tastes more like a brick than anything else. Also the tofu that they import from other countries is often pretty good but suppliers tend to be not the most punctual ones. Customers wouldn't be able to get their hands on tofu for days, if the supplier messed smth up again (which happens fairly often). So their in-house made tofu is one of THE main reasons ppl even go to those asian stores here ^.^
