Dinner with Dharshan | Sri Lanka's Celebrity Chef! 🇱🇰 🇯🇵

In this video, we are invited to what I believe is the best Japanese restaurant in Sri Lanka, Nihonbashi to have a tasting dinner with Chef Dharshan Munidasa.
Dharshan is a Sri Lankan chef, restaurateur and television host. He founded Nihonbashi and the Ministry of Crab, two of Sri Lanka’s most successful restaurants, both of which are the only Sri Lankan restaurants on Asia's 50 Best Restaurants List. His efforts in promoting Japanese Cuisine in Sri Lanka earned him recognition from the Japanese Government for which he was awarded The Minister’s Award for Overseas Promotion of Japanese Food for the year 2014.
This video was originally filmed a couple of months ago, but was never released as the restaurant temporarily closed for the lockdowns.
I kept a copy of the footage to release during our next Colombo trip which we thought was going to be much sooner, but ended up being postponed.

Of course at home. My girl is a great cook. I am not telling just because. Whenever a new Japanese restaurant is opened, she prepares meals and sometimes cooks for about a week. It is a wonder in a male dominated Japanese food culture, here.

very beautiful place nihon boshi............in colombo had in past best Japanese restaurant called GINZA HOHSEN in between 1987 /2013...i was the japane cuisine head chef at GINZA*2009/2013...it was located in Colombo hilton 1987/2013..............tnx guys

Hi There Johnny and Christina, thank you for all the travel video’s you are making while in Sri Lanka. I usually end my day enjoying a couple of video’s. I was born in SL in 1944, of Dutch Burgher origin. Left when I was 18 years. It still is my favorite place in the whole world and visit when I can. If you want to try authentic dishes, Charmaine Solomon’s complete Asian cook book is a good one. By the way the Mount Lavinia Hotel serves the best lampriest. ( Chef Publis) now retired, made the best prawn curry. Don’t know if they are opened for business at this time. Please let me know if you need any help with making contact with folks in the film business. I still have a few old family friends I keep in touch with and would be happy to introduce them to you. My cousin Gem Milhuisen was a business man back in the old days, he built The Blue Lagoon Hotel in Negombo. Designed by Geoffrey Bawa and was gorgeous. He finally sold out to the Cooray family ( Jetwing). Now my other cousin (Gem’s grand nephew) Paul Harding, has built a boutique hotel in Ahangama. Keep up the good work Regards Melanie

My home is half Japanese and we do eat a lot of Japanese food, inside and outside home. from $50 to $600 dinners. My Girl is now a partner in a seafood importing business.and they supply to most San Francisco bay area Japanese restaurants. So we get invitations all the time. (Covid is keeping us home but we do order from our favorite places to help them stay open) This seems to be as close to Japanese as possible. I think Nihinbushi is building a brige to Japan. NIce review, will check out when we are there.

Fun Fact: In 2014, Munidasa was named as a Cool Japan Ambassador by the Japanese Government for his work towards the promotion of Japanese cuisine outside of Japan. =D

Johnny, @ 4:25 you both seem confused by the terminology. 15% alcohol by volume is 30 proof. Or did Kristina mean by 15 degrees, that it was 15 proof which would make it 7.5% alcohol by volume.

Thanks for the explanation. It’s crazy how complicated they make it. From this it follows that, to convert the ABV expressed as a percentage to degrees proof, it is only necessary to multiply the ABV by ​7⁄4. Thus pure 100% alcohol will have 100×(​7⁄4) = 175 proof, and a spirit containing 40% ABV will have 40×(​7⁄4) = 70° proof
