Mac's mom probably came to America when she was younger, so she speaks good Cantonese and English and more Americanized (being open about feelings) generally. My aunt is like that, but my mom is more traditional like what you said.

I’m m Italian and my best friend growing up was Puerto Rican. Both of our families had a tradition of Sunday dinner home cooked. We used to switch going to each other’s houses every weekend so we could try out different food. The roast pork my friends mom used to make was the best I’ve ever had. My buddy still says my mom’s tomato sauce , pasta and meatballs are the best. NY was a great place to grow up in the 80’s and 90’s.

I'll openly about that this episode has me in tears because the conversation you had with your mom is a conversation I have yet to have with my mom. As Chinese Americans, our parents generation is not the type to reveal there inner feelings in an external manner. It rate and very difficult because they've been through so much. But they love us regardless. Mac, your mom is a beautiful woman, inside and outside. Cherish her. I'm going to have that conversation one day with my mom...... Soon. This is beautiful. I had a rough upbringing and had an up and down relationship with my mom. We mended our relationship once I was grown and a father myself. My mom passed away last year from Covid and I really miss her. It warms my heart that you get to enjoy your mom....God bless you both
