Dinner ladies brings so much warmth into my life as a student in the UK then. So sad that many shows that I enjoy like Countdown, Vicar of Dibley, Birds of a feather, Keeping Up Appearances, Last of the Summer Wine, Lily Savage and of course Victoria Wood's stand up shows will be in reruns now. They remind me of how wonderful my UK experiences were. But thank God for the Internet and KZbin

I do not know you, but "HOW DARE YOU!" disregard Victoria Wood's comedy genius, writing and acting as 'stupid comedy'. Every reference and joke that she makes is based on years of observational humour of British life, circumstance and situation. This woman was recognised as a national treasure and and institute in her own right. You say that you loved the series, but how can you label it as 'stupid comedy' when it is regarded as of the most welll-written sitcoms in television history, only coming a close second to 'Fawlty Towers".

@@karlthomas3374 well, who made you youtube police? You are right you do not know me. therefore when i said stupid, how in the fluff do you know how i meant it. i meant it in a very positive way. you know people have different words that mean different things. where I live, when something is stupid good, that means it is fantastic. and faulty towers, I have watched all of john's work including the flying circus. I love it all. SOOOOO before you go shooting your mouth off, know what the fluff you are talking about. Do not contact me again or you will be reported as unwanted contact.

@@karlthomas3374 Seriously though, if you don't like "stupid comedy," how about simple comedy? If you reread the OP's comment, it's actually praise. This is an art form that celebrates the beauty in simple, ordinary people. It's like Desmond and Molly Jones from the Beatles' song Ob-la-di Ob-la-da. (I love that song so much I sometimes tear up, even after hearing it my whole life.) There is nothing special about anybody in that song or in this series. These characters show the wonderful nature in all of us. In our simplest and most unsophisticated form, ordinary people are truly wonderful, and it takes real genius to express it so clearly. "Stupid" isn't always meant literally. In the OP's usage, it seems clear to me that "stupid" really meant simple, referring to the characters and plot, not any lack of genius in the writing. It takes genius to show the magnificence of the simple.

@@davidtunnicliff5442 Vic Wood never overdid anything. If you watch the series over and over you pick up on loads of stuff you either missed or understood in a different way at 1st viewing. Re this particular line: to have signalled the punchline too heavily would have ruined it totally. And Victoria was a great writer, she knew how to pace comedy. Both series of dinnerladies are a lesson in excellence.
