When she says "everything is spelt Eckle-feckon and pronouce Cocubury" she doesn't put on an accent, that's her actual voice and it's using the same inflections she did during her stand ups when she went into her little stories. Perfection :)

Say what you will about Anita, she's incredible mother; she put her baby where she knew he would be found and for someone she knew would look after him, but then in the end her motherly instinct kicked and and she took him back. Also, in terms of time line, her son would be, as of this post, approaching his 24th birthday :)

I had a manager similar to Nicola, nothing but a tyrant and a bully who victimised everyone under her. And she always wondered why she could never get people to cover shifts and why people quit without warning. By the time she was transferred we had gone from a staff of 8 as a regular to myself and 2 others, all of us part time trying to run a store without management or cover. This is my least favourite of the series simply because Victoria Wood wrote Nicola too well and believable lol.

In this age of Knighthoods for Lenny Henry and Tony Robinson. Isn't it baffling that The Two Ronnies and Morecambe and Wise didn't get that accolade. Not to mention greats like Arthur Lowe etc. Sir David Jason excepted.

I watched On The Buses as a kid. I didn't know this show followed. Does Jack or Stan come visit? I shall enjoy this

Victoria Wood had the incredible ability to create characters completely over the top in their personality and mannerisms and yet so down to earth and believable you can imagine them really existing. She could create entire worlds with this characters and was a delight to see her bring them to life or see others do so. There will never be another like her in our life time.

At the very start this, the discussion is about a pub in 'Ireland'. Then 'Scotland' appears.

This brings tears to my eyes. Such a perfect ending. I really miss Victoria Wood's sense of humour. She was never stingy in sharing funny lines with other characters. As a Malaysian studying in the North West of England then, this reminded me of my wonderful time with my British friends and neighbours and their humours, something that not many foreigners can understand and appreciate. I can perfectly understand Victoria's North West accent.
