Lived there for 12 yrs , gone down hill, how can there be so many Turkish barbers in one place and never anyone in , as well as influx of refugee family’s ,it’s a sad state of affairs ,shops shut
@timawells8 ай бұрын
I won't used the barbers because I end up with some one not speaking English while they translate.

One the shops shut they either get turned into flats Or they get turned into takeaways Turkish barber's or eastern European off licences Can't see much of a future for these little places

In the case of Dinnington pubs into flats. Building flats on any bit of spare ground. I hate private Landlords.

I think the Squirrel pub will become flats.
@timawells8 ай бұрын
@@misscoutts6193 It was going to have a small supermarket on the car park, then they said the pub was reopening, I am now suspicious that it was a cover for flats as you say. Especially after the workman's club got turned into flats.

As I have said in some of your previous videos when I left Dinnington in late 1959 it was a proud, clean and tidy village with good and honest hard working residents. Looking at this item I am glad I left and have no desire to return. My brother still lives in the area but he appears to just go with the flow. It brings back a great feeling of nostalgia with thoughts of where I grew up went to school and then left at17 to seek fame and fortune. I now live in rural Leicestershire and whilst we have signs of neglect nowhere near as bad as my old village. Thank you Tim for showing the village warts and all.

The issue I think is too many on welfare Roy. Where did you live?
@roysaywell21388 ай бұрын
@@timawells As I said in the narrative I live in rural Leicestershire South of Loughborough but since leaving Dinnington I've lived in Hampshire, Surrey and the West Midlands as well as time in Arabia, Cyprus and Germany. Another memory when I saw the awful frontage of the cinema just down was the old Melias food shop where I was an errand boy on an old small wheeled front wheeled bike and an enormous basket, longest delivery was to Wickersley (can you imagine a 13 year old doing that today), on the other side of the road was the Maypole whose delivery boys had a better bike and two shillings a week more than me.

Just realised I had misread your reply to me. Born in Leicester Road Oct 42 then moved to East London, Plaistow, then to Wednesbury West midlands. Back to Dinnington in early 544 to a brand new council house on Manor Road, family then did a swap and moved to Beech Grove by the cemetery. At thast point wanderlust got the better of me and never came back.

@@roysaywell2138 So you know John Vjestica Roy?
@roysaywell21388 ай бұрын
@@timawells Sorry I've never heard of him. The only names i remember from Manor Road area are: Keith Waring (went to Maltby Grammar with me) Colin Bradshaw, Baldy (never ever knew his Christian name) Marriott. I never knew anyone down the cemetery area as I wasn't there more than a month before leaving.

Would love to hear your thoughts on the spot that used to be the Lourdens Hotel. Booked and played a bunch of gigs there between 96-97.

Its modern housing, not my cup of tea. Ask Bill Johnson my Latin teacher what he thinks? Squirrel is the only pub left in Dinnington and they are supposed to be reopening.

Enjoyed every minute on this one Tim. Do a tour of Lidgett Lane up to the top of Lordens Hill sometime as there are a wealth of different houses on that track and I'd love to know the history/age of them and why the difference.

In reality by time when they have paid for Labour and materials and management, probably looking at half that more like 5 million or 6 million remembering everything in the UK seems to cost twice as much as anywhere else in the world nowadays and there excuse is C19 or TAX an VAT

Morning Andy. £12 million ended up being £11. Take off consultant fees £10 million. I doubt it will ever happen or will be totally trashy.

Oh dear. I thought Dinno was dead..

@@timawells Dinno looked rundown when I lived there for a short while about 15 years ago but still has more life than Sheffield City centre. There was a mainstream news documentary a long time ago regarding SMART Cities in China since they tried it out on a compliant population first. One guy interviewed said people had lost the incentive to do anything when freedom was lost. I guess that is what will happen here. They can build whatever they wish but people won't use it. We are already seeing "Quite Quitting" as the cost of living matches wages.
