Rother Valley Country Park to Tapton Lock cycle route 2015

This Cycle Route is of one we have done a number of times in the last few years it starts from Rother Valley Country Park and the ride goes to the visitor center at Tapton Lock. Then we return by retracing our steps. We usually eat at Nonas Cafe at Hollingwood Lock either on the outbound or return leg of the trip.

just like to thank you yet again , did this trail today and enjoyed it very much, very easy going trail but the dog walkers get in the way a bit , in the 47 years I have been going into chesterfield never realised there was a canal there , how thick am I and I only live down the road in Alfreton lol... if anybody is thinking of doing this trail then you can pay the £5 parking charge are get down there early and park on Rother way road for free.... thank again for a great video it help me lots thanks...

Glad you found another route that you like, did you take a break at Nona's Cafe, we always enjoy having a bite to eat there on our way past. Last week we did the other trails inside Rother Valley, we actually rode the Green, Blue and Red, all in all, it was quite fun for a spin around the park. Cheers for the feedback again Simon :)

Cycle Routes yes I stop at Nona's cafe for a much needed bacon bap lol, look forward to seeing the other routes at rother way, as a suggestion you ever thought of doing route 6 from derby pass the holy grail aka pride Park stadium to north Nottingham...cheers

We have ridden on parts of route 6, we did a route from Worksop to Newstead Abbey and back, but never been further South than that. We actually touched on part of it today as we rode the Dukeries Trail, which goes from Shirebrook to Harby, we went a few miles more to the Pyewipe Inn for lunch. Hi There. I've been watching a lot of your videos just recently and just popped you a sub for your efforts. This route is one of my staple rides as I live right next to RVCP and the TPT. Sometimes I just go as far as Staveley Marina (which is now complete) sometimes I go all the way into Chesterfield. I've just changed my bike to a gravel/adventure style bike having been riding a hard front/tail Kona MTB since the early 90's. I hope to be riding many of your documented routes just as soon as my ankle heals and allows me to ride. One thing I have noticed is that some of your videos are now quite old. (the TPT round here has changed over the last 5 years, especially around Staveley) Have you any plans to update them? All the best Andy

Hi Andy thanks for the info and feedback. Yes a lot of the videos are quite old now, even though we re-ride some routes to enjoy the trip and keep up to date with them, it would take some very significant changes to the routes, the filming or editing to make repeating a video worthwhile. It is something that's always on our minds when we ride a popular route. 🚲 🎥 Steve

It is more like 20 miles but depends on where you start and finish. If you start at Rother Valley and follow the Chesterfield Canal, go past Nona's café and up to Tapton Lock, then do a full lap of rother valley it is over 20 miles.. I've done it in 2 hours but I guess it depends on how much beer you have had the night before or how fit you are :D

It's a great route we always enjoy doing it, if you have more time check out the Blue and red routes in Rother Valley.

I did this last week it took me 40 mins at a steady pace and on my gps it was only around 7 miles not 20.. ?

Hi Timmyturnridge It's about 10 miles each way, if you are a strava member you can check our route in the link above, and you could possible plot your own on bike route toaster.com ( bikeroutetoaster.com/BRTWebUI ). I have done this particular route a few times now and its defo 20 ish there and back :). Do you have a link to your route?

+Chris Takacs Yeah there may be a bit of shallow mud on some sections in the wooded area and the big dip, but generally the canal areas are good.
