In 'Singin' in the Rain', her first starring role, Debbie Reynolds was thrown in with Gene Kelly & Donald O'Connor, two of the all time best film musical heavyweights, and she more than held her own. In the 'Good Morning' sequence, where she's singing and dancing with both of her co-stars, it's her I can't take my eyes off of. That movie is still considered one of the very best, if not the best, musical ever.

@@lakemichigan6598 Perhaps what made Debbie Reynolds so remarkable was the multiplicity of talents: singer, dancer, actress, comic. She could also play a couple of musical instruments. And she was gorgeous and shapely. Debbie Reynolds forever!

A Dramatization on the confilct between the forces of good and the forces of evil. Judge: But, where does it take place? Stripper: In the back seat of a car. Judge: Your Attorney must be remissed because so far, I haven't seen your Habeas Corpus. Stripper: He must have been sitting in one of those cheap seats. Judge: Take a seat. (Stripper looks at her butt.) Judge: No! Not that seat. (points to the chair) THIS seat. (Stripper sits down.) ZoneFighter1 Dean was always drunk. It was no secret. And he was always cool.
@bradwesley64989 жыл бұрын
ZoneFighter1 Yeah sure, whatever you say. As a guy that drinks a lot, I kinda know when someone drinks. The slight tremor of the hands. The dilated eyes. The quarter octave drop in the voice. The weary look on the face. These are all on Dean Martin. But I'm sure you know better. It was all an act. If that makes you feel better about him then great.
@MooPotPie9 жыл бұрын
Brad Wesley You just described a chain smoker, which Martin was. He was not a heavy drinker at all. The drunken playboy persona was his schtick.
@bradwesley64989 жыл бұрын
MooPotPie I've heard that before...but if he's not an alcoholic then he literally should get a lifetime achievement award from the Emmy's or something. I'm an alcoholic and I would have bet a million dollars that he is drunk. He seems to slur a bit at the beginning of his toasts and then recover after.a few minutes...and his reaction times are slow and then seem to speed up. It's classic alkie behavior, especially if you do it every single day. If this is feigned...wow I'm sorry as a career alcoholic I just can't believe he was faking that whole persona.
@MooPotPie9 жыл бұрын
Brad Wesley Well, either way, he sure did it with charisma. No one had a better time than Dean Martin. Dean didn't want to do this variety show at all, so he asked for an exorbitant salary and the condition that he not be required to attend rehearsals . . . yet the network went for it.. If he seems disoriented it's because he's reading cue-cards for the first time and just going along for the ride. Dean did become a heavy drinker in his later years after his oldest son died when his Air national Guard fighter plane crashed in 1987.

Shows like this seemed funny at the time, when I was a kid reacting to what grown-ups told us was funny, but i'll be honest: looking at these variety show skits now, it's just embarrassing and awful. "When comedy was dead."
@akrenwinkle3 жыл бұрын
I remember watching, on a wall-mounted TV in the cafeteria, my co-workers laughing at a Bob Hope monologue. Bob would make a wisecrack, then cut to the audience laughing hysterically, back to Bob, back to the audience, back and forth, and it seemed like the Dean Martin roasts... the comic and the audience were not in the same place at the same time. Deadly unfunny... but that's what people enjoyed.
@nancynolan58233 жыл бұрын
You two suck. It was just silly nonsense. Get over yourselves and lighten up.
@akrenwinkle3 жыл бұрын
People still say "lighten up?" Look, "we too" are entitled to have a different sense of humor than you. I love silly nonsense, for example Family Guy and Monty Python. But they are funny. That I or anyone else sees this careless garbage for what it really is doesn't warrant a scolding.

Only just seen this sketch - as in right now! What a really, really cheap and nasty shot at Mama Cass - it's just wrong. Dean should have had the balls to refused to do it - but he didn't.
