One of the reasons why I apsolutely love the spinosauridae family is because they are so well adapted to fishing, swimming and I love their long thin snouts and conical teeth. The head crest looks better as a little bump on the head instead of the two crests of spinosaurus from JP3.

"It's one of the documentaries that haven't engaged in serious time-travels" They literally put all dinosaurs in modern UK :p Joke aside, I think the setting is actually the reason why they don't change dates, documentaris change dates, so that dinosaurs from different timeframes can be shown together in one setting. Of course if your setting is modern times, you don't need to change the timeframe ^^

I just realised Jellyfish studios who did this show, Planet Dinosaur and a few others also did the CGI for the Book of Boba Fett, and of course Prehistoric Planet. Thats probably a reason why it is so bloody good. I realised this team was linked to Jon Favreau, thus Prehistoric Planet, so when I saw the croc dogs the sandpeople have in Boba Fett and how real it looks (genuinely that couldve been a notosuchian in Prehistoric Planet and I'd be convinced im looking at it alive stood there) I was even more excited for Prehistoric Planet. But now that I know that was the same studio behind this and Planet Dinosaur it shows how much the tech has improved and the animation work, and I'm assuming the budgets they've been provided with. Awesome to see a studio do so well with palaeo media specifically and only get even better and more realistic overtime. They work on other stuff too of course, but they've done A LOT of palaeomedia that is all either pretty brilliant to the best we currently have, I dont see something topping PP anytime soon. Genuinely, if we were to ever see Primeval come back or something like it, I think itll be Jellyfish Studios behind it, and if the animals look as good as they do in Prehistoric Planet, we would be in for a treat. Simply put, if dinosaurs are in the modern world, roaming cities and stuff, if its not in the UK its just not right lol, and is for some reason usually much better quality.
@bkjeong4302
@bkjeong4302 Жыл бұрын
Prehistoric Planet was good, Planet Dinosaur honestly…isn’t. Not only is it insanely focused on predation, they didn’t even succeed in depicting predatory behaviours all that well in many cases, and much of the supposed fossil evidence they show in the documentaries to justify their depictions are not properly explained and even misinterpreted at times.

13:40 I think it's completely fine to sometimes question the fossil interpretations of paleontologists. After all, these people usually specialize in osteology, taxonomy and geology, rather than etology or ecology. I just finished reading The rise and fall of the dinosaurs by Steve Brusatte, and the guy's really great at explaining fossils and taxonomy, but he also states some pretty dumb stuff, such as T.rex being as smart as an ape, because it had a similar EQ.

It's really a nice tough, see a great tribute to have highlighted the this region of the world and his own prehistoric local fauna as the local paleontology History too ! Because, thing who is often put on the sides and not too much mentionned in most and current Dino Doc or medias, is that the Britain country was litterally the BIRTHPLACE of the Paleontology Domain as a whole ! Really, that is not nothing !! Not only the country where the first species where named, that the word "Dinosauria" was created, and the Paleontology Domain was made first, but most of his earliest debuts and most impactfull discoveries and studies who will defined the way to understand the life from the past were made here too. And that during many decades. Sure, all the next chapter with the Paleontology History in North America/USA who will just follow after this beginning will greatly reinforced better our methods and knowledge about Paleontology and Prehistory in general, but that changed anything on what the Britain country role had done in the Paleontology existence itself. A country, and fact, who deserved more recognition !

Watched this one recentlg and it got me thinking. A Dino Doc I would love to see is a history of paleontology. Like, each episode would pick a group of dinos and show us the progression of what people thought it was like over time. I'm talking full CG Crystal Palace Iguanadons, with paleontologist talking about why they thought that, and what evidence led to the change to the kangaroo Iguanadon, and so on though 90's shrink wrapping and on to today's most updated depiction. Because I find the inaccuracies fascinating, and to know the actual process that led to our modern understanding gives so much of an insight into how Paleontology, and science in general, works.

Something that bothers me is that even when people give raptors full sets of feathers, they're always still really... flimsy. Their feathers are always super short and their 'wings' look useless. Raptors were pretty fluffy in general, and their arms didn't just have longer feathers on them, they had WING feathers. But even accurate documentaries RARELY depict this. The only one I can think of that did was Prehistoric Planet. Even this documentary gave them the pathetic but full feathered look with useless wings and tiny, short feathers with 0 fluff factor.

In reality, currently, we have 3 Iguanodon species : †I. bernissartensis †I. galvensis †I. anglicus Because even if the last one is labeled with the label "Nomen Dubium", or Dubious for short, this specific specie remain, except if until new studies revealed that she belong to another distinct genus, a valid specie ! I'm sorry, but it's like that. At the moment she not reconized as Invalid with definitive evidences/proofs showing that what we have here don't belong to Iguanodon at all but instead belong to another distinct genus, this specie will remains in the genus Iguanodon for now. This scenario work as well at 100% for Troodon too ! It's like how things works. To remind everyone : - a "Dubious", or also called "Nomen Dubium", genus (or specie in this case) is a genus of a particuliar animal that we don't know for sure completely, at 100%, after new studies for example, if the animal in question belong either to his own apart genus or either belong to a prior/previous and already described genus. Since we don't know if it's the first or the second case, we label the genus/animal as "we don't know" but to avoid complication, remain always in his original genus/classification. A Dubious genus is a genus who can POSSIBLY be a member of another previousely described genus, but still have chance that he was always since the beginning his own distinct creature. And there already many genus that have seen their validity confirmed even after being labeled as "Dubious" (ex: Brontosaurus). - And an Invalid genus is a genus who in reality is a creature that was already be described and named with a first genus denomination. Because a creature can't have two genus name as the same time, we keep the first one given to him and the second invalid one becoming what we call a "Junior Synonym". This is that a Invalid genus, a genus name who can't be used to scientifically refer to an animal since he already have a genus name to use to refer at him. That avoid complications. So, in conclusion, since I. anglicus is not reconized officially, at least at the moment where I write these lines, as an Invalid specie, officially, she remain a valid specie of the genus Iguanodon. Which mean that, for now at least, the Iguanodon was also a British dinosaurs and as an effect, keep his pertinent place in this documentary. Just to precise : It's true that is difficult to reconized as complete valid genus creatures based only from teeth materials, on this point, I completely agree on that. But in the same time, there already many genus of dinosaurs who are reconized as Valid Genus thus we haven't any fossils materials recorded at all ! These later being known only from fossilized footprints or others kind of "Ichtnotaxon", "Ichnofossil" or even "Ichnite" when it's come about fossil tracks. These genus, called here specifically "Ichnogenus", included like example the Triassic Cheirotherium and the Jurassic Sauropod Breviparopus. And despite the huge lack of fossils materials, these animals based on only these kind of indirect evidences of their existence still considered as 100% Valid Genus ! So, truly, all that are things to take into account !

@@redraptorwrites6778 Well, like you have said in your video, the originals teeth on what the genus was litterally created. Because the second fossils discovered of the animal was in final revealed to be in reality an other apart genus, Mantellosaurus (others fossils materials discovered later will be assigned to him, but revealed to an other again apart genus). And the third fossils materials discovered event who is the Belgium Mine numerous well preserved skeletons will be assigned to the genus as a apart specie. And this specie will becoming the type specie as model to describe the animal since the materials were more consequent. Even if I. anglicus is no more the type specie and have chance to be in reality a different distinct genus apart of Iguanodon, there also a great chance that I. anglicus is indeed truly a true Iguanodon specie of the genus afterall, in final. It's 50/50. But like I said, even if there chance that the targeted specie can be a different animal, there also any kind of evidence that prove and confirm definitively this hypothesis and that the animal is not a member of the original genus we thought to be. So, this is why, until new discoveries that will one day maybe confirm or debunk this hypothesis, the animal in question remain in his original classification. With at least the label to said to the people "attention".

@@joshuaW5621 Yeah, to the point we can even put into question the validity of the genus Megalosaurus and Iguanodon themselves ! Because since Gideon Mantell have created enterely and litterally the genus Iguanodon based on and with the teeth materials, which today are labeled as "Dubious" but who thankfully, like I explain upper, remain today currently always as a valid specie, the entire existence of the genus itself is fragile and endangered ! Because the second fossils materials assigned to the genus were revealed to be Mantellosaurus. And the third fossils materials found, the numerous ones of the Belgium Mine were assigned to the genus and became the new type specie, as I. bernissartensis, instead of the very first one. But if the original one created, I. anglicus, is one day revealed to be in reality a distinct genus (thing I hope will never happened), that mean that I. bernissartensis can't be a member of Iguanodon, and the entire genus will become Invalid !!!! And I. bernissartensis will become another distinct genus. It's technically like that things will happen since we can assigned a specie, even if put as new type specie, to a genus who never existed in the first place ! It's like the famous and scandalous Archaeoraptor, a genus who was revealed to be a mammade chimeric dinosaurs by bad guys. Since the genus never existed (or at least have any pertinent reasons to exist), we can't put/assigned a new and truly true real animal that really existed and was physicaly close to the original animal even as a type specie, under this genus name, to make sure that ar least one animal called Archaeoraptor existed once. The almost, in big line, scenario will and can be applied to Iguanodon. Thankfully, for know, we are very far from that. But we must still cautious !

The thing I like the most in this documentary, it's the sequences where the dinosaurs are alive in our modern times and roamed into the streets, town or the landscapes. It's truly funny and enjoyable to see, and watching them interacting with the people and the differents modern objects and structures. The overall give truly feelings and vibe of what could be a Jurassic World Dominion production, and that even way before the JWD in question ! (btw great movie and conclusion to the second trilogy and the overall saga). My favorite of these sequence is the one where we see the Iguanodon walking inside the Crystal Palace Park, just to the side of the iconic Crystal Palace Iguanodon stone Statues ! It's truly a nice and symbolic tribute that this specific sequence depict and show to the audience. It's truly show and symbolize how far our scientific knowledge and understanding view of the dinosaurs have evolved overtime from the 1800's.

So, if a genus and species gets named on poor remains, and then a new one arises more complete, the later becomes the type species?

Whether I think Iguanodon lives in Belgium or England, I personally think that if Iguanodon was (and I repeat WAS) a very common Dinosaur then I supposed that it would have lived throughout Europe, especially Britain (Regardless of the evidence).
