It’s really fascinating seeing how much our perception and understanding of prehistoric animals has changed over the last 200 years. Not just the designs, art styles as well have evolved to be more realistic with many creative and diverse ideas on how prehistoric life was like. I personally like both nostalgic paleo art of the Victorian era, 1980s-to-2000s era to the current era of paleo art that’s based on the latest scientific discoveries.

Giving each decade its own font is a nice touch. Interesting how some changes are mainly due to incompleteness of fossils (Spinosaurus, Deinocheirus) while others are mainly because of different concepts of how they behaved (Edmontosaurus) or both (Ichthyosaurus).

@@andykerkhofs1945 at first Therezinosaurus was believed to be something of a giant snapping turtle because only the claws were found. Therezinosaurus is still very fragmentary. Spinosaurus is a weird one. We don't even know if some of the bones actually belong to aegyptiacus or maybe another subspecies, or another species of the genus altogether. Edmontosaurus may have also had a crest
@Andrey.Ivanov2 жыл бұрын
The issue is that we don't know how common was the said crest. The evidence for the crest comes from a single individual and this is because unlike the crests of lambeosaurine hadrosaurs such as Parasaurolophus, Lambeosaurus, Corythosaurus, Olorotitan, etc. which have huge bony cores, the crest in Edmontosaurus was made entirely of soft tissue and would rarely be preserved. And with that we know that the species Edmontosaurus regalis had the crest, but we can't know for sure about Edmontosaurus annectens. Also we don't know if it was an example of sexual dimorphism where only one of the two sexes would have possessed the crest, or if was present in both males a d females.
