Hi DinosDragons, thank you very much for your review of my Spinosaurus Ramses from Mesozoic life. I really appreciate constructive criticism from professional collectors, as it will help me to improve future figures of prehistoric creatures, in the hypothetical case of making them, of course. And last but not least, seeing the figures reach the homes of Kickstarter backers and Shandorashop customers is a dream come true. I deeply appreciate everyone's support and understanding on social networks, especially considering that this is our first figure.

Oh wow this guy is gorgeous! I wish I knew about the Kickstarter for this guy! Shame about the base, it seems even more strange given that the legs don't look to be warped at all.
@DinosDragons4 ай бұрын
That's the weird thing. I was considering heating the legs, but on second thought didn't because the legs would now look distorted to fit the base. I'd rather modify the base a bit.
@Gaua1Ай бұрын
@@DinosDragons Hi, I had the same problem, and I fixed it with a hot water treatment (microwaving water in a tall cup to boiling temperature and bathing only the legs). Then, when they were soft and moldeable, I placed in the footprints of the base, tilted the figure a bit to the back to keep the balance and waited a minute to cool down. It fits perfectly but it tends to warp again, so I placed a tooth pick under the right arm axilla so it doesn't see and it didn't warp again.
@spinoguy35554 ай бұрын
I remembered back when this figure was still in its early phases and seeing the actual final product now trickling out is pretty awesome. It's like a figure 2-3 years in the making and it did not disappoint. Now I guess my only real criticism as an avid Spino enjoyer is that A. It would be nice if it was more or less 10% smaller to make it more accurate to the 1:35 scale and B. It would have been perfect if the upper chest, body and base of the tail was made a bit wider and more rotund to give it a bit more heft like of a creature it's size. But these are just personal critics and are honestly very minor lol
@DinosDragons2 ай бұрын
Indeed, that's the thing with Kickstarters, and if one is not experienced enough with all the dangers and pitfalls that could happen, particularly if unaware of how to do business in China, it can be a pretty much touch-and-go affair. I am happy for Kevin that this is at least done, but now he has to deal with items received, not received, dissatisfactions, and so on. I don't know what you meant about the chest, but the megalosauroids generally seem to have a narrow chest to me compared the allosauroids. Then again, I know very little about theropods, and given your name, I am sure you know better! 😁 I hope you've received yours by now, and it meets up to your standards!

Hi! I love your videos, you're my go-to reviewer for dinosaur figures! I also got this guy last week, and I was frankly shocked at how large it is. It's completely out of the advertised 1/35 scale, and now I'm torn because it's *beautiful* but far too large for my display. Also, I have the exact same problem with the left foot and the base. I have seen a picture in a Facebook group of a figure that didn't have that issue though. I intend to write to Kevin about it and see what's up with that. The leg doesn't look warped though, which is strange. Maybe it's an assembly/leg attachment problem.
@DinosDragons3 ай бұрын
Thank you for your support but you are too kind! 😅 I'm delighted that you have yours! I'm sure you'll see in person that it actually looks better in hand than my video might suggest. But damn... that huge size! I thought this would be smaller, and this is really like a showpiece that takes up plenty of real estate. Regarding the leg, it doesn't look warped at all, which is why in the end I chose not to heat it up just to fit the hole. I think it's just a miscasting in the mold, and hopefully this won't be an issue in future offerings.
@vraptork1814 ай бұрын
Ah ok this helped I thought the right leg was misformed from the shipping maybe heat or something I was thinking about heating it and moving it into place however not wanting to damage it and seeing yours I may avoid it
@DinosDragons3 ай бұрын
Considering that off the stand it looks correct, I am concerned that even using heat to move it in place would now look really off anatomically. So I decided not to do it in the end.

Which model is closer to 1/35 scale between the Mesozoic Life and the PNSO ?
@laseriedeladilophosaure92464 ай бұрын
@DinosDragons4 ай бұрын
I think @laseriedeladilophosaure9246 said it well. A simple answer would be PNSO, but people have made (or accepted) all kinds of measurements, and even take comfort in the fact that since we will never know they can just imagine any size they want, and make that fit as well.

Question for you: how does one go about fixing warpage?
@DinosDragons3 ай бұрын
You can't actually fix it permanently unless you get someone to inset a steel support inside, and that risks damaging the model. Otherwise, most people find the hot water or hair dryer method works. I have tried the hair dryer method and it works even on my Sideshow polystone statues. But it also depends on the complexity of shapes and how delicate various parts are!

Questions: In terms of price/ accuracy, would you prefer the pnso new Spino or this particular model? I already have the pnso, but this model is very beautiful!
@DinosDragons4 ай бұрын
It's hard to talk about accuracy because many people believe (myself included) that the current iterations that are based off Ibrahim et al's work are not all convincing in terms of proportion. We don't have enough bridging specimens to help us make an accurate estimate of hindlimb length. Given the arguments against Spinosaurus being as adept a swimmer as initial papers might have you believe, it seems likely that both wading models fall into the realm of believability. This Mesozoic Life ones looks less awkward as it hints strongly at some help from the front limbs for occasional support. And price wise, it's hard to say because I don't know how much shipping works out for you for either of these models 😢

After watching this review, I think I still prefer the newest PNSO spinosaurus: better skin texture, body sculpt, scale, scientific accuracy and for me I like the PNSO color much more.
@laseriedeladilophosaure92464 ай бұрын
@turtlesoup81344 ай бұрын
@@laseriedeladilophosaure9246 Are you saying that PNSO scales are too big? It does not feel like it. Personally I feel that the scale design throughout the body is more realistic and appealing to me than this figure. I am not sure about the legs either. There are reports that the skeletal PNSO used is in itself erroneous due to some claim that it uses leg bones from a juvenile. This is still debatable since they haven't done a bone cross section to find out for sure if it is a juvenile. SO basically, a dinosaur interpretation is still very loose, especially for Spinosaurus, it is very subjective even for a very well known dinosaurs like the T rex.

In choosing models for something so fragmentary and contentious (some might even say "dubious" in measurements), I think there is some leeway for measurements taken. I am sure things will change again. So I would stress less, and just choose the one that appeals to me. I would say that as much as I like this Mesozoic Life version, the PNSO is one I would not want to give up for this if I had to choose only one. Both are very good models, on very different scales, which is why I didn't compare them directly. The better one is the one that _you_ like! 😁

@DinosDragons3 ай бұрын
