@felipejara22343 жыл бұрын
Carl Jung must've been proud of Ronny's lyrics. Such a deep message to unfold truthful oneness self. hah
@M.Never.3 жыл бұрын
@@felipejara2234 I've dug a little deeper into this on the reddit/r/dio subreddit (I'm u/redqueen2 there). It might be a dialogue between the inner child and the shadow self. Notice how he sings with a high, childlike voice in the beginning, sounding like an insecure, anxious child, and then switches to the darker, more aggressive voice once the "hey, you..." part begins. Like another inner voice (the shadow) is addressing the child suddenly. The child is afraid of strangers, then the shadow comes in and tells the child that *he* is the stranger. In the third part it's the child talking again and it is afraid of the shadow now ("don't dance in darkness..."). In the liner notes to the Stand Up and Shout compilation he says that coming out of Sabbath he felt angry and hurt and threatened by everyone who wasn't family or close friend. It's incredible that it has taken decades and numerous discussions including one with a professor of English literature to finally put this together. I very much doubt I'm reading too much into it; it looks so obvious and deliberate, especially with the voice changes. This song is a real masterpiece.

I've always thought this song has two meanings. The things that we believe are good, but can be danger. The other meaning is one of sarcasm where people tell you not to take chances, not to dream of the good things in life because they will let you down...in the eyes of people who don't believe it's achievable. But we all know Dio didn't thing like that.

YES! You did it! You finally reviewed my favorite of all Dio songs and I couldn't be happier! You rock, Jamel! That is my buddy Craig Goldy on guitar, who also played for Giuffria and lives here in Florida. Phenomenal guitarist. The drummer is Vinnie Appice (Carmine's brother) and bassist (RIP) is a fellow bassist and friend, Jimmy Bain. Glad you did this reaction, bro. Awesome!

Dio was a big part of my youth. Holy Diver, Last in line and Sacred Heart were my favorite albums and I still love them. Vivian Campbell was a young guitarist that just had an awesome sound that made these albums great!

Jamel, everything you just said about your appreciation for music is why you're simply the best at what you do! Dio's first three albums consisted of : Vivian Campbell on guitars, who later went on to play for Whitesnake and Def Leopard. Jimmy Bain on bass guitar, who played with Dio in the band Rainbow. Vinnie Appice on drums, who played with Dio in Black Sabbath/ Heaven and Hell. This was the quintessential lineup for Dio's band.

Welcome my brother, to one of the best metal albums of the 80s, bar none. Every time I listen to this song, it just crushes me. And there are other songs on this album that are just as good as this, if not better. This is a song that makes me think of an overprotective mother trying to protect her child from EVERYTHING. Not just stuff that can put you in danger, but EVERYTHING. Vinny Appice and Vivian Campbell made the perfect foil to Dio's stellar singing.

the band was RJ dio on vocals & keys, Vivian Campbell (now in def leppard) on guitar, Jimmy Bain (who played on "stargazer" with Ronnie) and Vinny Appice (who played with Ronnie on Black Sabbath) on drums.

Ronnie James Dio was amazing, he had a voice that could lift a person to heaven or drag them down to hell depending on what he was singing. RIP Dio.

One of the greatest story tellers, if not the greatest, in Rock history.... As I said before... He weaves tales of fantastical worlds, impending doom and salvation's... To me it's like a Bard singing a tale of his journeys to places in long forgotten lands, in times where magic and darkness ruled... I've been lucky enough to see him on Holy Diver and Sacred Heart... When he did The last in Line... I nearly wept! And when you throw your hand in the air at a concert and throw the horns to rock, remember, he thru them up FIRST!!
