Saw this tour at the end of 87, megadeth and savatage opening. One of the best shows ever but didnt remember how great goldy was, totally underrated player and the dream evil album was just as good or better than some of the viv campbell records. Neither craig nor this record get the credit they deserve...

it is so moving that Dio moves towards the end of the song so affectionate to Goldy ....🌜🌛 for me personally i feel the vibe when Goldy is playing!!! the whole energy is so leveled up and flowing and for me that is the essence of the Dio band sound !!!!

He and Craig had a very special relationship. It went so far beyond being bandmates, they are family, almost father and son
@TCraigGoldy Жыл бұрын
@lotusmarilyn2825 Thank you for that! Very cool thing to point out! We started out as friends and became family! We believed that our own energy can be given out to those who need it. And sometimes it was him leaning on me for me to transfer any extra energy that I had to him ...and the other way around....sometimes it was the two of us standing facing the crowd but arms touching and both of our energy we felt at that time went to the crowd. I know it seems odd to think this way. But after Ronnie was no longer here....I didn't have a best friend anymore on this level. And one day I thought I'd try and pass my thoughts and inner energy to my girlfriend who became my best friend and she believed. Now I can't even say or do anything without her reading my mind! It's a trip!! It works and it's Biblical of all things! Anyways.....thank you for that! He was my friend!

Yeah it's unfortunate that Viv Campbell left. Most people would have stayed with such a well-established singer at any price, but unfortunately, it does appear that Wendy Dio pressured Ronnie to renege on an agreement whereby all the bandmates would make the same money as RJD starting on the 3rd album-support tour. Starting with "Sacred Heart", Campbell, Bain, Appice and Schnell were supposed to start making the same percentage as Ronnie. Vivian's mullet haircut was actually a protest. Dio specifically did not want hair short-to-the-ears on any of his sidemen because in the 80s, it was associated with more conservative appearing pop musicians. Dio nixxed Campbell during the Hear 'n' Aid project.

Freakin' Craig Goldy on FIRE! Would have LOVED to have had RJD live long enough to give us Magica II. And I love hearing Goldy talk about his time with Dio.
@TCraigGoldy Жыл бұрын
@charlesbarr3561 Actually at one point the doctor gave Ronnie a clean bill of health....and told him he could do whatever he wanted to do and we all thought he would go back with "Heaven & Hell" ( Black Sabbath but Sharon owned the name ) since he was back in the 20,000 seat arenas again making money hand over fist.....and we thought he would sock it away for his retirement! So, Wendy asked him....."What do you want to do?".....and Ronnie said "I want to write with Craig"! And we were writing for Magica II.....and I had a short 2 week tour to do....and he wanted me to do that one so he could write more to the story and then we could write songs around that like we did on the first one. But when I came back....he was in the hospital and was gone the very next day. Wendy cleared the room for me to go in and sit with him one on one as we always had done....and I really thought I was going to see him the next day! But he was gone! So, there is an unreleased song for Magica II..and I'm sure it will be released some day. But that was one of the saddest days of my life! Thank you for your kind words about the first one!! Means more than you know!!
@charlesbarr3561 Жыл бұрын
@@TCraigGoldy wow. It took him fast. I miss him terribly as a fan. But you've got to be the most genuine rock star ever. I remember when you said, at the world premiere of Dreamers Never Die, "playing for Dio was not a gig for me. It was a dream come true". That was pretty cool. So, Electra, was that supposed to be Magical II ?
@TCraigGoldy Жыл бұрын
@@charlesbarr3561 Yes, that was gonna go towards Magica II. Like Doug and I both wrote for the "Killing the Dragon" album. But Ronnie wanted to finish the rest of it with me...and you know the rest. And thank you for your kind words!! They really do mean a lot!!!

@@TCraigGoldy so, I have to fire off my 3 favorite Dio with Goldy songs, otherwise I'll never forgive myself. When a Woman Cries, In Dreams, and my #1 is Eriel. Such an epic badass riff. ,🤘. Thanks for the responses, Craig. I'm going to go tell all my friends now. I hope you don't mind. 😁
@TCraigGoldy Жыл бұрын
@@charlesbarr3561 It's actually my honor that you react like you do! Ronnie never lost that fire that got lit inside him before he became a musician....and if anything....it just intensified! Same with me! I'm that same kid who was vaccinated by a phonograph needle listening to Deep Purple "Burn"! When I heard "Man on the Silver Mountain".....it literally changed the course of my life! And then to meet him and become friends, perform together on the very first night as meeting him during the Rough Cutt audition! He sat in on that! Later that night it was just the two of us sitting on his couch hanging out and talking like we've known each other all our lives! Then working with him in the studio during the Rough Cutt demos, being in his band and then to be known as his right hand man is STILL sooooo surreal!! So....thank YOU! It's my turn to try and treat his fans in the same way in which he did! Keeping his "way" alive! His music will live on forever.... but I want to make sure his "way" didn't die with him!!!!!!

HE IS THE BEST PERFORMER EVER IT'S NOT GIRLY IT'S A PERFORMANCE WITH EMOTION BOTH FEMININE AND MASCULINE.. LIKE LIFE ITSELF... THE PERFORMANCE OF LIFE AND THE DRAMA OF LIFE DIO REPRESENTS THAT ... AS WE ALL DO MY FRIEND .. WE ARE ALL BOTH FEMININE AND MASCULINE.. TO BE ONLY MASCULINE MAKES YOU WEAK AND FULL OF PRIDE AND MACHISIMO WHICH IS A BUNCH OF BULLSHIT AND HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH MUSIC OR TALENT OR WHAT THE HUMAN BEING OR SPIRIT OF A HUMAN REPRESENTS .. WE ARE ALL BOTH FEMININE AND MASCULINE AND IF ONE DOES NOT EMBRACE BOTH SIDES ONE BECOMES UNHEALTHY BOTH SPIRITUALLY, EMOTIONALLY AND PHYSICALLY. SO YES DIO AND I ARE BOTH ALIKE AND MANY OTHER GREAT PERFORMERS ARE TOO AS WE ARE COMPEX HUMANS UNLIKE THE OTHER SHEEPLE OUT THERE AND THAT IS WHY WE ARE ON STAGE AND YOU ARE IN THE AUDIENCE ... MUCH LOVE MY FRIEND .. FROM ONE DIO FAN TO THE NEXT ;)

Yeah, the band was trying to be a little "MTV friendly" without going full-hair-metal like Whitesnake, another legit Deep Purple offshoot from the time of Ronnie's early days with Rainbow. Long hair was one thing, but the industry tried to glam it up, making guys with long hair look feminine when up to a certain point, long hair was the look of bikers and REAL hard rock musicians.
