Pray for the Restoration of Traditional Latin Mass in Quilon

Thank you for sharing this video. However, I would like to point out the following corrections. It would be better to use "Kollam" instead of "Quilon" which was introduced by the European colonialists in the later centuries. Also the West Syriac Orthodox bishops Mar Sabore and Mar Aphroth came from Nineveh (present day Mosul of Iraq ) along with the merchant leader Marwan Sapir Iso and landed in Kollam on 19th May 823 AD.They settled down in the present day Thevally region of Kollam. The Jewish merchants ( of the Anchuvannam merchant guild fame) lived in and around Thangasserry area where also the christian families of the descendants of the west Asian spice merchants ( Manigramam) who married local women lived. The Arab muslims who came after the 8th century lived near the Jonakapuram area. These 9th century syriac christian migrants built the first known ( recorded in history) church in India, ie., the West Syriac Orthodox church "Tharissappally" on 17th Aug 825 AD, ie in about 2 years after their arrival. Commemorating this event the " Nazrani Era (NE) " or Kollavarsham was started by this syrian christian migrant community from that date. These migrant Syrian christians or the "Kollam Nazranies" were given special privileges through the "Tharissappally cheppeds " by the then ruler of Venad principality, Ayyan Adigal Thiruvadigal in 849 AD when Sthanu Ravi Verma was King of the Chera Empire to whom the Venad ruler was subjected to. The Latin catholic community has nothing to do with these events which is peculiar to the syrian christian community of Kollam. Of course, these migrant syrian christian community were forcibly brought under the Latin Catholic church of Rome in 1599 AD by the missionaries from Portugal under the leadership of Menezis who was the bishop of Goa at that time through the Udayamperoor Sunnahados. Later on, they reverted back to their mother church ,ie the Syriac Orthodox Church of Antioch in 1653 AD through the Coonen Cross Oath ! This community commemmorated the 1200th year of their arrival very recently. Marwan Sapir Iso is buried at the Thevalakkara Marthmariam Orthodox Vallippally . The locals venerate him as "Mar Abo". Bishops Mar Sabore and Mar Sabore are buried at the Udayamperoor Synodal church !. Also I should point out that there was no Persian migration in 345 AD to Kollam or any part of Kerala. It is just a cooked up story. There was only a local migration in kollavarsham 345 ie., in 1170 AD ( 345+825=1170) .Actually it is wrongly linked to the migration of a small group of Kollam Nazranies to Kodungalloor. Since they came from the South of Kodungalloor they are known as Thekkumbhagar. There was a similar migration to Kodungalloor from Mylapore of the present day Chennai around that time and they were called as Vadukkumbhagar as they came from tbe north of Kodungalloor. These migrants were of the Nestorian faith or belonging to tbe Persian or the "Church of the East" church . Lteron the thekkumbhagara were also brought under the Persian church in around the 13th century or so and thus the Kerala christian community had a Persian church connection and this continued till the arrival of the Portugese Latin catholic missionaries. The Thekkumbhar were of the Jacobite faith and hence they tried to remain an endogamous community. They later on came to be called as Knanayas for whatever reason best known to them. Nobody has seen the so called Knai Thomman chepped which they claim to have received. Similar is the story about St. Thomas visit to Kerala and building a church at Kollam. Whom did he convert in Kollam ? "Tamil Iyyers" instead of Namboothiris for a change ? They are all old grandma stories fit for garbage bin or the Kollam "Corporation Kuppathotty ".. Anyway catholic priests and bishops are known to cook up stories to suit their narrative and hence those terms "Pazhaya Koottukar" and "Puthen Poottukar" etc were coined by them.

It was not Bishop Jerome who was the first Indigenous Indian bishop of the Latin rite in modern times. In fact, it was Bishop Francis Tiburtius Roche of Tuticorin who was the first Indian of modern times to become the shepherd of a diocese in the Latin Rite. He was consecrated in September 1923.
