Jeffrey Osborne and Dionne Warwick nailed this song. What is so sad is that I cannot think of a single male or female popular artist amongst the millinial generation that can even come close to the talent that these artists represented during the period of great love songs that this song was produced. It is so sad how narcissistic and inept these young artists are today with celebrating the importance of love in song writing.

I agree. It should have been a big hit. It's only original release was on the Dionne Warwick Greatest Hits 1979-1990 album, which was released in October 1989. It was interesting that they titled the album 1979-1990, instead of 1979-1989, as it was a 1989 release. I will leave that up to the marketing department.
@leafl752 жыл бұрын
@@jasonburger3533 Thank you for the information. I don't have her Greatest Hits 1979- 1990. So, this wasn't released as a single at the time.
@jasonburger35332 жыл бұрын
@@leafl75 You are welcome. "Take Good Care Of You And Me" has been released on many compilation albums of Dionne Warwick and maybe Jeffrey Osborne as well. The biggest hit that Jeffrey Osborne had was "On The Wings Of Love", released in 1982. "Take Good Care Of You And Me" was released in 1989. You might have noticed that Burt Bacharach and Carole Bayer-Sager, his wife at the time from 1982 to 1991, were featured prominently in the video, as he composed and she wrote the song. They both collaborated with songs, including composing and writing "That's What Friends Are For", which was originally written for and sung by Rod Stewart in 1982 and used in the movie "Night Shift", also released in 1982. It was turned into the huge hit by Dionne Warwick, Gladys Knight, Stevie Wonder, and Elton John, in 1985. Burt Bacharach was in his 60s in this "Take Good Care Of You And Me" video and Carole Bayer-Sager was in her mid-40s. Currently, Burt Bacharach is 95 years old and Carole Bayer-Sager is 76 years old. They both have autobiographies in print. A lot of Melissa Manchester hits were co-written by she and Carole Bayer-Sager. "Take Good Care Of You And Me" is also featured on the Dionne Warwick Facebook page with the same video as well.
@leafl752 жыл бұрын
@@jasonburger3533 Thanks again. Yes, I did notice Burt Bacharach and Carole Bayer-Sager on the video. Someone in the comments thought he had seen Joan Collins but it's true there's some resemblance. "That's what friends are for " as well as "Heartbreaker" are Dionne's hits I remember the most of that era. But she did so many others and this song is just fabulous.
@jasonburger35332 жыл бұрын
@@leafl75 Her song "Heartbreaker" was released in October 1982, 40 years ago this month on an album of the same name. It was written by The Bee Gees, who sing the chorus in the song. They had to convince Dionne Warwick 3 times to record it, as she purportedly did not like the song at first. It wound up becoming her largest international hit. Barry Gibb, one of The Bee Gees, also wrote a song for her called "Yours". It is on the same album and is a nearly 6-minute ballad. The Bee Gees produced the entire album. "That's What Friends Are For" was originally sung by Rod Stewart in 1982. However, in 1985, it became a large fundraiser hit by Dionne & Friends, which consisted of Dionne Warwick, Gladys Knight, Stevie Wonder, and Elton John. It raised money and awareness about AIDS research. British-American actress Elizabeth Taylor had wanted to join in singing at the end of the song, but Clive Davis, the head of Arista Records at the time reportedly stated that it would have become a novelty song if that had been done. Since Elizabeth Taylor was involved with AMFAR, the American Foundation For AIDS Research, the others were all for it, but even that could not make a difference on the issue. Dionne Warwick was involved with the "Solid Gold" show on its 2-hour pilot episode from January 1980, the top 40 songs of 1979, the series in its first season, 1980-1981, and the 1985-1986 season. American television has generally followed September through May for a full season, but there have been deviations to that in many cases in recent years as new media has competed with television for viewers and attention as well.

@@leafl75 Yes, Burt Bacharach and his then-wife, Carole Bayer Sager, are featured prominently in the video. The official release was in October 1989 on the Dionne Warwick "Greatest Hits 1979-1990" album, which, kind of strangely, was released before 1990, but not by much. The Concorde is featured as well, and only Air France and British Airways had those in use, and that was from 1976 until the July 2000 crash in France. In my opinion, the song should have been a hit. Jeffrey Osborne had a large hit with "On The Wings Of Love" in 1982 and "Take Good Care Of You And Me" was not the only duet together for both. Jeffrey Osborne is 74 and Dionne Warwick is 82. It would be something for them to re-record this 1989 song, which makes it over 33 years old. However, it is better than most of the new songs that dominate American radio and streaming formats as well.

@@leafl75 Thank you. Yes, there was a 1987 duet that Dionne and Jeffrey did called "Love Power", which was featured on her "Reservations For Two" album. The video is on KZbin and features some Street scenes of the Marina del Rey region of Los Angeles. There are video performances on KZbin, some recently added, of "Take Good Care Of You And Me", which includes the Auntie Dionne KZbin channel video of it that was taken from the "Dionne & Friends" syndicated 30 minute weekly series, which aired briefly in 1990. In the Los Angeles region, KTLA-TV Channel 5 broadcast it at 12:00 midnight to 12:30 a.m. late Sunday nights/early Monday mornings. There are a lot of videos that the Auntie Dionne KZbin channel has from thay show, which was syndicated by Tribune Entertainment. The song was relatively new at the time in history, which was after "Solid Gold" and before the Internet became commercialized and 15 years before KZbin began in 2005. The Concorde was supersonic and a big deal in the United States for those who were wealthy. That 2000 crash was a tragedy and the only that I recall involving the Concorde during its 1976 to 2000 existence.

In this 1989 music video for "Take Good Care Of You And Me" sung by Dionne Warwick and Jeffrey Osborne there included Burt Bacharach and Caole Bayer Sager, who composed and wrote the lyrics for this song and had been married from 1982 to 1991, so they were married at the time of the song and video. The song first appeared on the "Greatest Hits 1979-1990" album, which had been released in late October 1989. The title was ahead of its time in many ways, including the date as well.
