It's not surprising to learn that Dionne, Cissy and Whitney are all related. You can hear it! They each have their own sound but also have a family similarity. What a pity that both Dionne and especially Whitney didn't look after their voices though. They were both spectacular in their prime!

I usually don't like most female singers singing low notes - they usually tend to go very hollow and breathy, with their larynx forced down. But her voice is so firm and natural down there, so nice.

@@reggiemitchell5198 so contralto would became low tenor with your logic. Damaged voice, hoarseness... are different from lower voice. One of vocal myth is Beyoncé became a mezzo-soprano while she still retain her soprano qualities nowadays. She just sing with more depth & weight.
@reggiemitchell5198 Жыл бұрын
@@jinji4609 no that’s not my logic lol and Beyoncé is definitely still a soprano just a lower one. But Dionne is a mezzo now she barely can get above C5 now. It can happen. Another example is Della Reese. When she came out she pure mezzo soprano and she became a contralto because of smoking. It can happen honestly 🤷🏾♂️

@@reggiemitchell5198 Excuse me, do you think the darker voice of current Lady Gaga is the part of her smoking habits? Some people don't believe she was a natural mezzo anymore In Dionne's case, voice typing is very questionable IMO bc old ladies often sound quite mezzo-ish

@@Mika-si3dc Nah the above commenter is right. Its quite a mix of some gorgeously sustained notes but throughout the "belting range" section, there are multiple instances where you can hear strain and tension. Because she was out of her prime by the time 83 came. Those clips where she’s tense are when she is out of her prime and the effects of smoking takes their toll on her voice. Like at these time stamps: 3:05, 4:34, 6:04, 6:27
