Today were comparing the new HomePod 2 versus the HomePod mini. Two similar yet very different products, each with it’s own best use case. I will be talk about the similarities and differences between the two as well as share and analyse some sound tests, to help you decide which HomePod is the right fit for your home. HomePod 2: $299 (white, midnight). HomePod mini: $99 (white, space grey, bright colours. Design. HomePod 2: cylindrical (presence). HomePod mini: sphere, snowball (tuck away). Mesh design - depth. Minimal modern - compliment any room. White blend wall - good looking speakers. HomePod 2 bigger and heavier: woofer and 5x tweeters. HomePod mini: full range driver and dual passive radiators. Both 4 mics Siri and HomePod 2 room sensing. Both glass touch surface - music controls. Colourful LEDS to show status - adds life to product. Sound tests. Difference in sound stage and range of frequencies. HomePod 2 bigger sound, depth in all frequencies, sub-bass not heard on mini. Hear bass lessen mini, 2 all frequencies balanced. 2 is louder, fills medium to large space. Mini does decent job but more at home in smaller space. 2 cost 3x more than mini, but delivers 10x sound. 2x HomePod 2’s Dolby Atmos sound - means immersive sound - home theatre setup. Also unique to HomePod 2 is Spacial Audio, also on AirPods, places you in the sound. Pairing both is easy, just hold iPhone close. Once paired, use Siri. While cooking, timers or conversions. Use intercom send a message to other HomePods . HomePod 2 and HomePod mini have temp/humidity sensors. Link to actions, I.e. turn on the heater at x temp. Both HomePods can acts as hub for your smart home. Apple Music subscription, ask Siri play song or artist. While neither have AUX or Bluetooth pairing, can use both as audio output on any apple device, select it from the drop down menu and choose your HomePod as output. Stream any audio (KZbin/Netflix/Spotify). From the “smart speaker perspective” the 2 and mini are pretty much identical. HomePod 2 or HomePod mini? If in Apple ecosystem and mainly HomePod for smart functionality with occasional music playing, mini is excellent with all smart functionality of the 2, still good sound for good price. However if you want a HomePod as much for sound as for smart features, if not more for sound, HomePod 2 is worth it. Again 3x price but 10x sound. Regardless of which you choose, HomePod, like Apple Watch or AirPods, meant for those in Apple ecosystem - this allows you to get the most out of these speakers to justify the price - for those, a HomePod, mini or 2 will be a welcome addition to your smart home!

Well, you really feel the HomePod sound, its volume, and definitely its Bass, that much more! No contest!!… but that said, because I have 2 minis, the stereo pair makes you appreciate the music that much more!… I heard the HomePod 2nd generation for the first time at the Apple store today, and was taken back and would totally buy a stereo pair of them if it were not for the significantly increased price. Too bad, but I can dream for the day when I can afford 2 of these HomePods. That will be a very, very fun day!!😁... Thanks again though for the excellent review; very much appreciated!!👌👍

I really like my HomePod 2. I also have a HomePod mini in bedroom. The HomePod 2 has very rich sound and bass. The music you can feel. It’s so room filling. The HomePod mini is also great for background music which is why it’s in my bedroom. The HomePod 2 is for high fidelity audio listening.

I love them! It’s not always advisable to have headphones in all the time. It could be dangerous to our health in the long run. As an avid lover of music, having a HomePod would be ideal to play music out loud sometimes and enjoy myself

I’m happy with my 2 mini’s I’ve set as stereo pair for my tv. Going to buy some more for the rest of my house. The HomePod has better sound, but the price is a bit too high, certainly for my use.

Me too. I had the one HomePod mini and adding a second really provided a great sound for my TV using Apple TV 4K. For the price of one HomePod I bought a new pair of passive bookshelf speakers for my primary audio system using Apple Music Lossless. You simply can't listen to the higher lossless recordings with any Bluetooth speakers. If you live in an apartment, having a clean and robust sound at lower volumes is more important that top-end loudness (unless you want to get evicted 🤨).

in my opinion, mini is a great smart speaker for listening to audio in normal day to day scenario, which is mostly the case with me. however, if someone wants 10x sound experience, kinda like a party scenario where they want louder and clear audio, may be that's when HomePod 2 will be useful. am I correct?? @misterketley

@j.xxsj I used to have a Homepod Mini but I got rid of it sometime last year, It was a great smart speaker and I’ve grown to regret selling it. I think if you’re going to get a homepod, the Homepod mini is the better choice, not only for its price but it’s as good if not better than the $300 Homepod. (You could get roughly 3 Homepod Mini’s for the price of 1 Homepod.) You’ve also got more color options… As to the give away, the iPhone 14 Pro is very impressive phone. I’ve used an iPhone 14 Pro and I can say that it’s as close to perfect as you can get.(Aside from the battery issues) This phone would be a great gift for someone and it’s what I plan to do if it ends up in my hands. 🤩

I’ve got 2 Minis that are smart speakers and also help control my Thread -based Apple smart home. They’re in separate rooms, so aren’t used as a stereo pair. Personally, if I needed more, I’d probably stay with Minis - especially as you can get 3 for the price of 1 big one. @pug_63 🤞🤞🤞
