You are welcome to join me for another fascinating online tour this time exploring the intriguing story and historic-religious significance of the ancient deity Dionysus.
Intimately connected with ancient social alcohol constructs and senses of stepping outside of oneself (the meaning of 'ecstasy') and the everyday reality, the semi-divine Dionysus and the rites associated with him have had huge impacts on human culture and our general spiritual and social conscience.
Any donations welcome!:

I really enjoyed this video man, most of it I listened to as I drew and drank wine but, I did appreciate the talking of various paintings and imagery. Well put together and articulated.

Hi Edward! Fellow XJW here. Enjoyed the video. I have been rather obsessed with Dionysos over the past 5 years, curious whether you have found a similar interest in this intriguing divine figure. Have you read/studied the Bakkhai/Bacchae? When I did, I was amazed at the similarities both in plot and in theme, with both the figures of Moses at Thebes confronting Pharaoh who asks "Who is Yahweh?", as well as Jesus confronting Pontius (sounds a lot like Pentheus). Moses initially asking to let the people go out into the wilderness for three days for a celebration/Dionysus followers going out to the wilderness for the same. The scene in Exodus would have taken place at Thebes in Egypt, as well. The more I've delved into Dionysus, the more I'm starting to lean - with many of the ancients - into believing that Dionysus and Yahweh may have been one in the same. Fascinating stuff!

Thank you for this informative and wide-ranging video. I liked the complexity of the stories or and around Dionysos. I have just one suggestion: your selection of images was mostly well thought through and researched but I was left wondering what some of the images were. Is it possible to add a referenced list of images used? Title, artist and repository would be useful for future research.
