I dont care what other brands do, for me this was Dior. The Dior who has had aggressive price increases to compete with Chanel and Hermés. I expect SO MUCH more morals and humanity from something calling themselves " luxury ". It is not luxurious to abuse other human beings, especially exploiting vulnerable migrants. It makes me nauseous that Dior chose quantity over quality.

There seems to be rumors that Dior is not the only one that will be named...so I'm so curious if that's just a blanket threat from the Italian authorities, if specific luxury brands have already been identified or investigated or warned, and whether similar allegations will be brought against them, or was Dior the sacrificial scapegoat and everyone else now will get their act in order to avoid being publicly named like that...

I know wealthy women who carry replicas. The main reason they gave is that they just understand the value of money and don't want to spend too much money on bags... so more people choose fashionable*jklux* bags. However, they do spend a lot of money on fine jewelry and other things.

For me, everything under the LVMH umbrella is now tainted. While I wouldn't encourage someone to burn their bags or throw them out (since both are bad for the environment!) I do understand why many who have these bags are feeling as though they don't want to carry them either. Luxury has been such a scam over the last few years and now Toto has pulled the curtain back on the Wizard. We all know if it's happening under one brand, it's happening under many of them, none are immune. Quality has gone down considerably over the last few years and now it's totally making sense as to why.

I think that's the kicker isn't it? It would be silly for us to think that "only" Dior was doing this, chances are quite high, this has become somewhat the norm over the past few years. Then the question becomes - how do we identify the brands that are ethical or fair...

For a long time, as the price of Chanel increased, I no longer thought I could afford it. I think I'll be happy that I have the*jklux* as my travel bag that I don't have to take care of. By the way, I'm sure no one will have a hard time telling the difference. Thanks for the comparison.

Would love to hear more content like this from you given your background!! I agree, no company is clean of this. But I’m not gonna reward companies by paying them a super high margin for it either.

Thank you for watching! I agree, I'm by no ways condoning this, or saying it's their high margin that makes this appalling, it's appalling either ways, even if they are selling bags for 54 euros, and it costs them 53 euros. What I need to be better about is doing my own due diligence about brands, but even those business ranking reports are not entirely helpful either!

#3. I typically support slow fashion / small batch brands when it comes to clothing and shoes. Bags are just my weakness, but I’ve never purchased from Dior yet and I’m not sure I will. I get this is a completely different scale but Dior launching Rihanna’s campaign to take the heat off this speaks volumes. I don’t think they will own up to it since contractually it was probably something the subcontractor took responsibility for. I’ll give it time or consider buying preloved instead. It makes me reflect on my overall consumption in general.

Same here - we tend to give companies like Dior the benefit of the doubt on so many issues, we trust that we are paying for something above and beyond (like going to a more expensive hair salon, etc.). And not to defend Dior necessarily, let's say if contracts were won on bids, the factory may have faked their own audits, and Dior went for the "best" bid, and based on the factory's own audit reports, I mean, perhaps they really can be like "oh, we didn't know..."

There are some great local artisan co-ops where at least one or two of the co-op participants make really great and unique bags.

Hummm… i think i am boycotting. I have already snubbed Balenciega and LV. And a few more brands are on the brink of getting my axe.

We can't fully control every aspect along a supply chain, but I guess what I'm irritated by is how close to the core this was; let's say a textile provider/source had a shady mill that reated it's workers poorly, but that's two or three steps out from the factory floor itself where the pieces are assembled. It's not that that's "more okay" technically, but at the level where your product is being assembled and then to be sent onto the retail store that is too close to being their own responsibility.

I've always wanted to love Dior but every time I look at their items or try on their bags, I don't love it so I think maybe their overall style is not for me. After this news, I am more hesitant to purchase Dior, I won't say I definitely won't purchase anything, and I'm not a big Dior consumer to begin with so this will make me even think longer about a potential purchase, anyway their new dior bag that looks like the lv nano speedy is super cute lol!

lol I know what you mean! I think their gorgeous, but I don't know if I can see me actually wearing one. So I have yet to buy a Dior bag brand new from store, and I don't know if I ever will. But then, I'm not sure if buying preloved addresses the issue either!

I remember watching dior clip how lady Dior was made. The whole clip looked so beautiful with fabulous working conditions. This is simply inhumane.

Reputation is funny when you can buy them back like how balenciaga has all the big stars esp. women and mothers endorsing them 🤡 I am not “mad” because I buy things and I contribute to consumerism. Nearly all brands do this. Taking advantage of people

Right? As much as I teach about businesses and free enterprises and capitalism, I get why other departments (not to pick on sociology lol..) are mad about what seems to be the norm in business, as in, none of us are truly shocked by the extent companies will go to make a buck...So power to those who opt to live off the grid instead!

I noticed Louise Vuitton quality has been mass produced If you look back 30 years ago they last more but not any more it’s poorly made and material gone cheap

I think this is no new news ! This has been happening for years otherwise we cannot imagine the billions and billions of profits these companies gain ! Just commonsense I have stayed away from buying anything designer past few years and happy honestly . Wats the point of buying expensive clothes ? Some Fast fashion brands are equally beautiful and well made And designers use Italian sweat shops and French sweat shops while fast fashion uses Chinese or Bangladesh sweat shops No difference except countries where sweat shops are located ! Haute couture is true luxury but they are Uber expensive, also how many bags does one need ? Just got to be mindful of our spending

I get what you mean, people get on to 'fast-fashion' brands like H&M, assuming that because it's inexpensive that it's cheaply made. And it's ironic because I have H&M clothing pieces that are going on a DECADE, and still in amazing condition!

Plus, they put out collections weekly like it's nothing, so I can see how its hard to maintain a level of exclusivity when they seem to be rolling out releases on a conveyer belt lol! I wonder what a "healthy/functional" luxury industry looks like???
