One of the very expensive fountain pen that still have the steel material nib, the Diplomat Aero.

7:35 The "flaming process" is pretty safe and not that complex technically speaking, they fix a blowtorch on a vice and the craftsman holds the pen (with heat-resistant gloves) over the flame until they obtain the desired effect on the metal surface. It may require some skills though to do it in a consistent fashion on every model. What explains the price compared to Standard Diplomat Aero that are made out of aluminium, this one is made out of steel (hence the weight). Because aluminium doesn't withstand the flaming process well and wouldn't create these stunning colors when exposed to heat. But steel having different resistance properties implied to change their machinery to adapt to this new material. Indeed the CEO of diplomat said they broke some machines in the process. Very nice looking pen, a tad heavy but an excellent writer for sure Diplomat is reputed for their honed steel nibs.

Loved that finish ... bought the orange instead, with an extra fine nib. Very smoooooth!

Dave, I’m surprised how smooth the F nib is! I usually get a M nib, but I thought why not try the fine nib on this pen and see how it is.

@@pengangsta Don't know for sure, but I believe that they tune their nibs before making them available for sale. Several of my pens have JoWo nibs and they are all pretty smooth, but not as smooth as this one!

Well you can make metal have a rainbow effect with regular pocket lighter to be honest, maybe it works better with jet lighters but its still a regular lighter .

Great review. My wife just bought one for me and it's got some weight! My nib needs replacing, but I've found Diplomat steel nibs to be excellent.

I’ve got mine inked up now! It’s a terrific pen and so beautiful! Sorry about your nib. Is Diplomat going to replace it? Or the store you got the pen from?
@luckyoleary96264 жыл бұрын
@@pengangsta Yes, my store is excellent and will replace it. I was hoping for some of the darker colouring but they're all unique. I have a black aluminium version so I know how comfortable they are to weitw with.
