Finally, a decent review of what is currently my grail pen. I would love to own one of these one of these days. Thank you so much for the review. I love your videos. I love your authenticity.

Love your sense of humor when “The Precious didn’t fall”. I love Diplomat Aeros although I’ve never seen the need to upgrade to the gold nibs when the steel ones work so well. You’ve tempted me to give their gold nib a try. It is beautiful looking. I’d like to add the caps fit so well there’s no big problem with dry out. And that snap when they close is very satisfying.

don't bother. the steel nib is far superior in performance

A comparison with the steel nib was what I expected.

I have 2 aeros in black and blue, with 3 different steel nibs - they are fantastic steel nibs, write as nice as my pilot gold nibs. Maybe i will try a gold one - theyre so easy to swap!

Monteverde Mandarin Orange works well in the Flame. If you want to change the nib it only comes with a section so it gets expensive changing nibs.

I wish they made a ultra flex nib, even an untipped one, if they did I would 100% be buying one.

I couldn't agree more. Diplomat nibs (while very firm) are exactly what you want--be that fine or medium or broad or what ever. I also find their pens fit my hands perfectly.

I will say, they may be on the expensive side compared to the competition, but Diplomat and Faber-Castell are really the only two Western brands that have the consistency of the Japanese brands when it comes to their nibs. They also both have that delicious type of feedback where it sucks the nib to the paper and slows it down slightly, but it doesn't feel jerky or like you have to overcome any resistance to get it to move.

Diplomat makes great nibs, although I've only tried the steel nibs. I'm particularly fond of the Excellence A+ model, although I agree that the Magnum is a great knock-around pen.

That was hilarious when all the pens fell out! Seconds before, I thought oh that's an accident waiting to happen, and then it did. Completely agree with your comments about the Aero being underrated. I love them. The cap closure is so satisfying. I think the common issue for the wider market is that they are all metal pens, including the grip section (which some think is slippery), and they are in the higher-end price range for a steel nib. BTW, this is why the packaging includes a metal lid... I think I saw the Diplomat owners in an interview talking about their rich history of metal material manufacturing and experimental attitude.

Great review. Just ordered one with broad 14k. Have a green matrix with medium 14k. Anyway, agree with all you said, particularly about the gold nib and writing experience.

Recommend you try the Aero Oxyd brass. It has a nice weight to it at 79g.

Where can I buy diplomat products in Singapore please? I really like the blimp shaped pen. But I don't know where is the stationery shop that sells them.❤

How much heavier is this than the normal Aero? I have an EF and B steel nib for my orange sunset aero. Thinking to get this or the Elox with a gold nib. Thought it was awesome you included the pen dropping blooper. All the nibs look great.

I've got both (orange aluminium and steel flame) and the Flame is significantly heavier. I don't have a precision scale with but I'd say the Flame is about 1.6 or 1.7 times the weight of a standard one. It's really heavy for a pen. Not uncomfortable, but massive (posting is a big no-no) . If you plan on using it for long writing sessions (several pages in a row) maybe you you'd better stick to an aluminium one. Nevertheless, the Flame finish is stunning (nothing to compare with the cheap gaudy rainbow neon /oil slick finish you find on some pens) and the pen feels very robust.

The “unusual pen” comment - it’s like you know me or something😄 and I’ve done worse too. It’s outside my price range atm but maybe someday

the Diplomat Aero is the only diplomat pen I like.the rest of them are just crap in my opinion. i have 8 of these aeros in different colors and nib sizes and love them all EXCEPT for the one I paid double for in order to get the gold nib! The gold nib on this pen is nowhere near as nice as the steel nibs on the regular pens. I find myself no longer using the gold nibbed one. Gold isn't always everything. I just purchased the What Lacquer one so I'm looking forward to the look and feel of that one.

A number of pen companies are offering a flame finish but I don't like the look even if the quality is high. Just not my cup of tea.
