Diplomat Excellence A2 Fountain Pen Review

Currently shopping for a Diplomat Excellence . Thanks for helping me decide how to spend my pen allowance! I'm on a slip-cap-only quest for pens recently. The way I tend to use pens, a screw-on cap is frustrating. Yes,I'm that lazy.

This was the first "expensive" pen that I ever bought, and I still love it. Mine is blue with silver hardware, but it's always been reliable and smooth, and it feels great. Love how the cap snaps closed!

I got this very pen (or pens) a few months ago - one in M (Skyline Blue) and one in B (Black). There is not much in it but I prefer the M. I always use Waterman Blue ink in all my pens - I think that is a wonderful ink. Being a fountain pen collector of some 35 years, I must say The Diplomat Excellence A2 is one of the very best. And very under rated too compared to the well known brands. The Skyline Blue I got from a well known website for something like £170 but the one in Black, I bought from Ebay for half that price. So, that is a clue where you might find a good deal. The Skyline Blue is especially attractive.

I agree, I love the Excellence! I have another with a gold nib, which I picked up for less than this one, and ordered another one with steel nib yesterday for £60. Absolute steal at that price! Fantastic daily writers!

I agree with you in that it’s a very nice dark green pen with brass insets. I have a couple of A2s and would probably get a steel broad nib. They work very well . The gold would be even better but it’s too expensive for my liking.

I love the steel nib on this. I could be wrong but I doubt I would feel the extra money on the gold option

I have the excellence a2 in skyline blue. It's a amazing pen. I've been using it as a daily writer for almost 3 years and it holds up amazing. I've had the nib reground to cursive italic and it preforms wonderfully!

Being an owner of a Skyline Blue A2 myself, I concur with you. I too use it as a daily writer.

I like this pen a lot. The fit and finish are both very nice. I love the colour. I don't actually own an Excellence but I do have a couple of Diplomat pens. Mine are more vintage than modern. I know Diplomat steel nibs are highly respected and are some of the best out there. It's a big jump in price for the gold nib version. Overall a good pen for business or pleasure.

I bought exactly the same model (but with a medium nib) last year before even seeing any reviews and have never regretted it. Very comfortable pen and a good writer.
