Just wanted to say thanks man! Used this method to remove one on my 08 5.3L Silverado. Ended up using a 5/16" lag bolt 4" long. Bitch didn't want to come out though, but I got it!

Mine went into the oil pan never saw it again. Buddy has 2 in his oil pan

5/16 fits the top portion, 3/8 fits the bottom portion. Which size do you use to match?

I had to drop the oil pan and punch it out from inside the block.
