Find a piece of pipe or a socket that fits over the dipstick. Use a screw that's long enough to bite into the smaller diameter part of the tube with a head or washer on it so it will tighten against the pipe/socket. Tighten your screw into the dipstick. This will pull the dipstick into the socket/pipe without the binding issue caused by hitting one side of the screw and pull it out as one piece. -Cheers

Hey guys, Enjoyed the video. Just an observation. When You are threading down the first bolt you can not go too deep. The reason is that the bolt is cutting the groove the o ring sits in. That metal is pretty thin even if in perfect shape. Hit with a penetrating oil and be patient or just go to the thinner self tapping screw if you can get one long enough. In emergencies you can pick up some dry ice and actually crush it up and send it down the tube. It will break the metals free. Make sure you have proper safety gear so the ice does not injure you. You can use a funnel to put it in. Best part is that it has no affect on the oil because there is no water. Thank you for posting the video!

Thank You!! This video saved my arse today. Dipstick tube broke off at the block while trying to replace it today. Used the bolt technique and got it out. While threading the bolt in the remaining dipstick tube tried falling into the pan. Had just enough bolt threads caught to pull the tube back out. Lucky break!

Brother 👊 that screw trick worked for me, i was able to remove rhe whole thing. I think you got to make sure you get a coarse thread screw and one that is not too tight or too loose. Thank you! You saved me a pan removal

i had already tried an extractor, only to break the remainder of the tube loose, but not able to remove. ive done this trick with a broken glow plug in the past. thanks for reminding me what i was doing! great video for those who may not know that hollow tubes can be threaded if they break and pulled out this way!

Thanks for this video! I was able to get a 5/16 lag bolt down in it and drive it out. Whole process took about 7 hours. It was a long day. Took another hour and a half to get the new tube in because the fit is so tight. Clamping some vice grips onto the bottom of the tube and hitting a bar from above the engine. Its been a long day, but got it all done.

Best thing I have found is to use something like a small jack handle or something behind it to keep it straight while you pull up so it doesn't keep leaning.

I will be running in to this on a f150 and this video will help me a lot, but was wondering if you you could have used the tap screw first and saved the first step with bolt in case the tube breaks at o ring.

So would that bolt method work on a 92 Dakota magnum 3.9 on the top of the tube, without heating up the o-ring & PB blaster don't hurt the o-ring, old broken dip stick has been shoved down 6-8 inches, in tube, & can't put in new dipstick & don't want to push it through to lay in oil pan, & run vehicle, afraid it might get caught up in motor , & jack up newly rebuilt motor, driving 800 miles to go home, so you see my situation

try a vaccum (old kenmore vaccum worked for me). believe it or not, I was able to vaccum mine out. but, I did need to wrap my hand around the oil tube and the vaccum hose as best I could to get good suction. my dipstick was only down about 1/2 inch. if it is down there 2 or 3 inches, I am not sure if it will work. so glad I didn't have to drill. I was worried about a few plastic shavings making there way down into the engine. I have a 2006 nissan sentra and the oil dipstick is pretty easy to access as it is on the front of the engine.
@austinseverns61432 жыл бұрын
He’s removing what’s left of the dipstick tube. Not the dipstick itself. No way your going to be able to vacuum the tube out of the block lol. I know your comments a year old but I had to say something 😅

OMG so not how to do this, People this is simple 1. move the starter out of the way (takes 5 minutes) 2. tap the slender part of the tube with 1/4 20 tap 3. run bolt through any larger socket with a washer and a nut 4. tighten the bolt until its 1in in the old dipstick 5. tighten nut against socket this will come out in 3 minutes Do not have to heat this, the dipstick is designed to be removed so when you have to remove the starter it comes out..
