I've been to two Dir en grey concerts in London and Berlin, and they are definitely amazing live. Seeing them in Europe means smaller stages and the ability to get up close and really see facial expressions etc, and believe me, they are all captivating on stage. The first time I saw them was in London a few years back, and they had massive technical issues. They had to stop three times and go off stage to try to fix it, and each time, singer Kyo got more and more pissed. Last time they were gone for 40 minutes, but the crowd waited patiently, cheering and chanting now and then to let them know we were still there. When they got back, they had redone the entire setlist to exclude the faulty equipment and just went for it, the five of them. They tore the place apart and the crowd was in heaven. The crowd almost gave them more support than usual to say "hey guys, we know it's not your fault, we're here for you guys no matter what." Guitarist Die (the only one who speaks a passable English) stayed behind on stage and apologized after, and I've never heard a crowd go that bananas in their support. Though it was kinda funny to hear people chant "Die, Die, Die, Die..." as he walked off. Memories for life!

@@o15ika It was, wasn't it? Despite the waiting, it was worth it for the time they were on stage. And the energy of both crowd and band made up for the waiting.

Thanks for reacting to my request. The title is more known as Shokubeni and I think you get the meaning right behind the song. The strange song structure is what makes this song 1 of my favorites. But it is probably a difficult one to get into, Dir en grey only makes difficult songs..... well except for Uroko maybe. Thanks again for reacting!

Thank you so much Janine for this one! I love this song~ [I do prefer the Code of Vulgar[ism] version for this one but it has neither such good quality nor translations so I am happy you picked this one! I just love how he used to sing that acapella part without the mic and how he uses his body there to tell the story is mesmerizing] But hey~ we have the ending of an Inward Scream in here which is so awesome! 🖤 I've seen them live this year for the first time and they are truly breathtaking. They are unlike any other band I've wittnessed so far and even growing up on their live DVDs and watching them on the screen daily can't prepare you for that live experience. The best way to describe how it felt for me personally, is that at some point it seemed like they managed to open up everyone's chests inside that room and all our emotiones, pain, despair, hope, excitement etc pured out and combined. It was a really dense and intense mood in that room ^^'' [of course this varied a bit between songs but overall I felt a strange sense of connectetness - like noticing we are all pretty much the same - with all our good and all our bad]. And their enegry on stage is off the sharts. I actually hadn't imagined Kaoru being so active on stage as he seems more calm overall but I stood on his side of the crowd and could see all his expressions and he interacted SO much with the us just with his expressions and gestures and then sometimes he lost himself completely inside a song and it felt like watching something really intimate ^^'' With Kyo there was more like no barrier between him and us - like everything he did he did to create a bridge between us and was MEANT to be watched and felt. But that's just my feeling!

Kaoru head banged in front of me. I felt blessed, first because that's rare (as far as my observation goes), second, because he was in Die's corner.

Seeing Deg live is a pretty life changing experience. I remember I was super pumped to see them live for the very first time. At that time I'd never thought in a million years I'd ever get witness their greatness in person. The setlist that night was songs from the Withering to death album. The crowd that night was crazy from first song til the last one.

I've seen them live an indecent amount of times since 2005, across Europe and Japan and it's ridiculus how every single show conveys an entirely new feeling and atmosphere. You can witness the same song being performed a hundred times and it will be a hundred different experiences. And I don't just mean slightly different. There are songs I felt super joyful and excited towards one day and the next concert the same song transportet a nearly menacing and forboding atmosphere. It's probably the main reason I love Dir en grey so much: You have to rethink every song constantly. There is no standing still with Dir en grey, ever. The band always gives 100%. So the biggest difference between a foreign and a Japan show are the visual aspects like screens, light and smoke which are usually toned down quite a notch at their foreign concerts, and the audience which is really different. The first few concerts I visisted from 2005-2008 where really wild and loud and hot as hell and then suddenly during their 2009 tour people started to film the shows with their mobiles and depending on where you stood it became impossible to move freely. I really hated that so my first experiences in Japan where pure bliss! Dir en grey are NOT meant to be watched through a tiny screen when you are actually there. I don't know but that's like going to the theatre to watch netflix on your mobile. Doesn't make any sense to me.

I've seen them around 7 times across the US and Germany, they've been better every single tour and there's never been an off night. I think you nailed it by describing it as a world, the atmosphere is just completely different from a normal concert.

i've seen them live twice and both of those shows are hands down the most emotional and powerful ones i've ever been to; they all have such an amazing stage presence and their ability to convey emotion and tell a story through music is truly something else!

Been to some of their live shows in Europe and numerous in Japan - Japan is different from overseas. I‘d say more organized but also more intense. People do not scream during a song, more respect for the musicians, usually headbanging and singing at the same time. I enjoy that more than the chaos overseas. It still gets extremely fired up and hot.

YES SHOKUBENI!!!!! Kyo has used the color red in a lot of ways, including another song from the same album as this one called RED...[em] and a favorite of mine recently is “Aka” meaning red (tho it’s written with an unusual character giving it a double meaning as per usual Kyo lol)

This song's lyrics is based on a japanese children's game... the "oni" or devil sits in the middle with eyes closed and the other children go around in a circle chanting the song until it's done. The oni guesses who's behind. The connections with the children's song and this song, the way it's performed, the lyrics, the raw emotions.... chilling.

I'm truly happy to finally see a reaction to Shokubeni. That's such a great choice! And yeah, I also was at their concert this year and that was fantastic. I just remember it as a whole another reality that you get into once music starts playing. I remember Kyo's absolutely mad eyes and the passion that he gave to us. It was a feeling of watching someone who has such an energy power and control over you. And I l o v e d it. This is hard to explain but there are people with such charisma that you won't look at anyone else anymore after seeing and interacting with them. Probably Kyo is one of the most powerful human beings that I've ever met. Toshiya was just like a monster with his bass and I mean it in the best way possible. For me he is the best bass player in the world and it was such a pleasure to see him right beside me. Thankfully I was just near the stage. The whole band was amazing and that was one of the best concerts in my life for sure. This was heaven and that's an experience that you want to live through over and over again. And the crowd was really supportive as well
