Dirac Delta Review and Comparison to Popular OTFs

Just a tip I found out to draw this knife extremely quick and way more reliably from the pocket. You slide your hand into your pocket with your thumb along the side of the knife. Then curl your index finger against the pocket clip under the lip. Then you lift straight up putting pressure on the clip, so it's pulling outward instead of pressing in like it normally would. Grip knife between your thumb and your middle finger as it exits the pocket then rotate and deploy. This seems to be the quickest and most consistent method for me. I just discovered myself, and too was frustrated with the pocket clip and how it was holding too tight to be pulled reliably. Hope this helps. Thanks for your review.

I believe the second bump in the pocket clip was designed to give the Dirac two functional pocket positions. Deep carry for better concealment (with a second layer of pocket retention security) and a little shallower carry position to give better access to the handle body, allowing for a more secure grip on draw. Over time, I have become very much a fan of those functions on my Dirac Delta.

If that’s the case, I’m not sure I like the idea. I think they’re better off picking one pocket position and doing it well instead of doing both in a way that doesn’t work as well for either.

Great review, esp your discussion of the show side vs side-mounted actuator switch. I own the dagger blade Infidel and love it but just for playing around/collecting, not self defence. It's a safe queen. But for an OTF knife I'm actually going to use in my EDC rotation, after your discussion of the location of my index finger when actually using a clip point single edge OTF knife, I'm going to purchase the Guardian Tactical Recon-040 rather than a Microtech Dirac Delta. Not going with any Microtech bc I don't like the proprietary screws.

Dirac delta or combat troodon ?? I am trying to decide as we speak a vendor is waiting on me to choose by tomorrow for a exchange . I like larger knives and I have never owned a OTF though I’ve been collecting folders my whole life

Hey I was wondering from your spring sing video would you be able to do mine? I don't have the tools for it and I sent it in to microtech and it didn't fix it, it's a combat troodon and it annoys me that it was much more than my ultratechs and it have this going on

I am in Texas. I believe they are legal in CA but only if the blade is under 2 inches. I’m not a CA knife law expert though, so I would double check that with someone who knows.

So when I lived in CA you can own any of these OTFs but where the law comes in is when you take them out of the house. The blade does need to be under 2”. So like the UTX-70 or the Mini Troodon. I carried a UTX-70 while I lived in OC. Out the side autos fall under the same laws. All manuals are fine as long as they have a pocket clip. Hope this helps!

Of course you're wrong about the Infidel in terms of blade play. Because the Infidel uses a blade guide fitted into the blade, which tends to loosen thanks to BM not using loc-tite, the internet crowd has swooped in and pecked out the guts of the Infidel system due to LACK OF KNOWLEDGE! When the single machine screw that anchors the blade guide to the blade is properly loc-tited in place, the blade on a BM Infidel is rock solid MORE SO than any MT design. Sorry if that offends any internet experts, but it's pure-D fact.

I’ve owned two infidels and handled many more. They do have blade play.

@@TripleEEDC all OTFs short of the $1,200 model that locks the blade in place, has blade play, even the SOG OTF. It's necessary to allow the action to operate.

I own several OTF's from close to 500 dollar ones...they all have the same type problems,..... peanut butter killed the infidel.....ill stick with the side charging switchblades'
