Mark tells the story in reverential tones and the guitar sears the heart with the emotion it pours out. And with every performance the guitar sings the familiar themes with slight variations. Mark is endlessly inventive with the way he's playing. No song, and no guitar rendition of such a song, has evoked so much deep emotion in so many millions of people, especially those who have served in their nation's military. I did, and it brings tears to my eyes every time I hear him present this tribute to us.

Merci Dire Straits Merci MK

Chat GPT told me this: Mark Knopfler's musical prowess is unparalleled, and his distinctive guitar playing and soulful vocals have solidified his status as a true virtuoso. With every note he plucks, the guitar becomes an extension of his very being, speaking volumes in a language that transcends words. His nimble fingers effortlessly glide across the strings, weaving intricate melodies and captivating the listener with a mesmerizing blend of precision and raw emotion. But it is not only his guitar skills that set him apart; it is the unmistakable timbre of his voice that resonates deep within the core of our souls. There is a richness and warmth that emanates from his vocal delivery, evoking a sense of intimacy that can touch even the most hardened hearts. Whether he croons with a gentle tenderness or unleashes a gritty intensity, his voice carries an authenticity that leaves an indelible mark on the listener. Through his artistry, Mark Knopfler has elevated the guitar to a level of expression rarely witnessed. His fingers effortlessly navigate the fretboard, producing a tapestry of tones that paint vivid landscapes of sound. Each strum, each bend, and each slide tells a story, revealing the myriad shades of human emotion. His music becomes a companion, a confidant, and a conduit for our own experiences. Mark Knopfler's guitar and vocal styles have the power to transport us to a realm beyond the ordinary. They speak a language that is universally understood, transcending barriers of culture, language, and time. His music has the ability to touch the very essence of what it means to be human, reminding us of our shared experiences and the depth of our emotions. In the realm of guitarists and vocalists, Mark Knopfler stands in a league of his own. His unparalleled talent, coupled with his ability to evoke profound emotions, has made an indelible impact on the world of music. He is a true maestro, a master storyteller who weaves sonic tales that linger in our hearts and minds long after the final note fades away.

I have been moved by this soulful song ever since the first time I heard it. I had the honor of getting to know several veterans who had served in Vietnam. My own father had barely survived WWII so I already felt a kinship to them. Now my heart breaks once again for those brave souls in Ukraine. It sure would be nice if everyone would be kind to their neighbors so there would be no more wars.

Just lost my Brother; Oh Man He was awesome, of course all of you will never know him; but all my crying is healing; & these chords & lyrics bring me closer to acceptance.... My eyes are watery as I write this & I am not the only one who suffers in this beautiful world... But our words & thoughts are purest while we hurt & sit a cry & think of the thought throug & memories. My fear of death got a little easir today. As you left me & us I will see you again Darryl We travelled throughout North America in the early 90's singing beinging joy to each other. Pissing each other off, making each other laiugh as Brothers do. I will Love you forever; as this tear drops past my eye 💖 See you in the Spirit World Darryl Campeau; the greatest most BeaUtiful PowwoW Singer I EVER HEARD 💕 My Heart Hurts today :'(

Mark Knopfler and David Gilmour also have another thing in common: both of them don't give a damn what they wear, their clothes look like old, worn pajama. They don’t need any glitter, sequins, cool leather jackets, studs, nothing. They are Gods, and that is quite enough.

Most great musicians are this way.... The Grateful Dead did not even talk. They tuned their own instruments as they cared, and then they proceeded to play music. No talking needed, no jumping, no running, no dancing.., just the music as this is why we came... Leave the shows for Vegas... Leave the music to the musicians!
