Would love a video on lots of examples of scaffolding while working with small groups. You mentioned highlighters etc in this video. The more examples, the better. It would be great to have an entire session broken down so we can see a sample routine implemented when working with children in a small group who have different skill sets.

Thanks for the video. I agree with most of your points. Especially intensity and pacing. However, I have a radically different approach. I work with second language learners, so it's a different context. But I do not usually do the present, practice, produce approach (I do, we do, you do). I have found something that keeps students engaged and they enjoy and are on task all the time. I do not teach one discrete item. I go through a series of 4 or 5 minute activities. Sort of a potpourri. I do flashcards, read aloud, paired writing, silent reading, vocabulary, math flash cards, etc. And I do not expect mastery or reaching an objective that day. The research is very clear that spaced practice is better than massed practice. So, we do a little vocabulary each day and repeat it 5 or 6 times, but on different days. Continuous review, but on different days. Quick. I find this works great, about twice as well, but administrators hate it because it is on a completely different paradigm than present, practice, produce. It is fast-paced and constantly changing and students are constantly on-task. I also do tests and practice tests as learning tools more than evaluation. Research is also clear on the testing effect. Testing on material is more effective than reviewing material. Anyway, thank you for the video.

I totally agree with you! Spiraling the content to provide frequent practice is so important. I don't expect mastery at the first point of instruction either. It takes lots of repeated practice. I'm so glad you are finding success with your students!
