I've ridden both, but only owned indirect steering trikes. I ride fast and indirect steering(at least the several trikes I've owned) is a lot more stable at high speed.

I’m leaning toward indirect, being that I’ve had problems with carpal tunnel syndrome, and vibrations tend to numb my wrists and hands after a while.

I have both. An ICE Adventure HD with indirect steering and a TerraTrike Gran Tourismo with direct steering. They both steer great abd there is very little difference in steering performance. What I id find is that with indirect steering I get less of the road vibrations transferred into my hands that I do the direct steer trike. This makes ong rides on the ICE more comfortable.

At high speeds going down steep hills or mountain passes, there is a significant difference in the two types of steering when considering the rider's safety. Direct is not nearly as safe at speed, and the rider has a higher potential for crashing if a road irregularity or bump is hit by the front tires. Indirect is superior at speed when considering trike stability. For general riding around town and regionally, at typical lower speeds, there is no notable difference, as you mention. steve

I have a GT-26 with indirect steering. The accessory pole can take a handle that helps getting out of the seat. It servers as a make shift direct steering tiller. So I can say I like the indirect and low to medium speeds and direct and medium to high speeds when trying to go straight. All I have to do now is work out how to make a tilting trike and see what that is like...

I have only ridden a trike with direct steering, so it is no surprise that direct steering feels natural to me.

Either type of steering feels very natural with only a short time of riding. Both types are inherently easy to master within minutes. steve
