Indie-Low Budget : 40 million dollars.

I thought I'd misheard that at first. How is 40 million low budget? Am I missing something? I thought Silent Running (1 million) and the original nightmare on elm street (1.8 million) were low budget.

It's an expensive industry. I can only assume the thought process was that tens of millions is low for what they were trying to achieve - obviously it isn't enough money to actually go out and sail a squadron of old WW2 destroyers so they had to use cost saving techniques and still got high production value for it. Otherwise, may Ryan just misunderstood the price of the film because 40-50m is crazy for something being called an indie.
