70 year old BTS Army here. "Haegeum" has a double meaning in this song. It is a traditional Korean instrument held on the knee and played like a stand up bass with a bow and two horsehair strings. It is used in this song. It also means lifting a ban or liberation. Famous DJ and producer Steve Aoki stated he is a musical genius. I agree. His MV "Daechwita" is a prequel to this song. He just left S. Korea recently for his sold out world tour and is the first rapper in history to sell 1 million copies of an album on the first day of release. Some seem to think that the corrupt cop is the Mad King take 2, but a lot of us think it's the rebel/boss from Daechwita who has been corrupted and become a representative of the oppressive government just like the Mad King was, showing that it's a cycle that repeats itself. But the fact that Thief!Yoongi doesn't have a scar is also significant - apparently, he's said that he's less angry, more ready to let go and forgive, so Agust D is "retiring" for the time being, until and unless he's needed again...

I noticed the parallels between cop Agust D and rebel/tyrant king having the scar and some same mannerisms; but also noticed that tangerine thief Suga does not have the scar but still has some mannerisms of rebel Agust D. The title of the song is a wordplay: Haegeum (해금) in Korean is a traditional string instrument, the one that was used in the song. But if you look at the meaning of the Chinese characters (解禁) which literal is spelled "haegeum" it means "lifting a ban". Which is consistent with the lyrics, is freedom the end of prohibition? Is my freedom at the same level of your freedom? This MV is the second part of a trilogy of music videos, 1st one is "Daechwita", then "Haegeum", the next will be AMYGDALA which will be premiered next week on the 25th.

He truly is a genius. I've listened to the album....watched this video, sooo many times. The message is amazing, the visuals are amazing, the plot/ storyline is amazing. I can't wait to see what he has in store for us with Amygdala. It will be the final chapter of this trilogy. Only a few more days. Along with being an instrument,Heageum can also mean lifting a ban-liberation, as well as a forbidden rhythm. He spoke about liking to play musical rhythm/strategy games growing up and unlocking new forbidden songs/rhythms to play.

He’s said that after that comes out, to watch the three in order. You're right there are a lot of Easter eggs in the MV and even the scenes matches the lyrics at the right time!!. In KPop there are so many rules that idols have to follow although Hybe is not strict with their artists but still they make sure that they are spotless of any wrong doing bec the cancel culture is so strong among fans and the industry. When Yoongi was seen lighting a cigarette and smokes, the lyrics that he was rapping were "This song's simply about freeing what's forbidden but you must remember to differentiate freedom from self indulgence" Kpop idols are not allowed to smoke and there are limits to their career. Some say his song also came at a time when a male idol died of suicide at the age of 25..and his lyrics say "Freedom of expression could be reason for somebody's death" IMO, this is a brave move from Yoongi talking about the system in the industry...

To me, the first scene with the chopsticks represents BTS "killing" the music industry, attacking it directly on its jugular. The two Agust D versions would be the rebel that can be totally free (even from ambition) and that who obbey the rules but use them to be rich (it seems that's a corrupt detective) He openly talks that the song is coming to lift any banning (he's smoking), but real freedom, not self-indulgence! After Moonbin's death, I think this song put the finger (no, the whole arm) in the wound. And that's why I think the release wasn't postponed 😢 Oh! the fact that yoongi was offered a script after producing this mv but he rejected the script offer. Haegeum is the prequel to Daechwita. he kills the cop and becomes the cop with the scar, then in Daechwita another side of himself kills the king (cop becomes a king) with the scar, and in the AMYGDALA video which is the sequel to Daechwita where he frees himself and becomes the self with no scars. all these videos are connected with him personally and it tells his life.

Maybe I'm completely off, but the turquoise colour could be symbolic for outdated ideas/systems/etc. In some of the scenes, Yoongi is wearing copper coins on a chain around his neck. Copper oxidises over time to turn turquoise (think Statue of Liberty eg.), so perhaps the steel-y blue colour in the outfits/set/etc. is a metaphor for how there are aspects of the society are old and outdated. As I said, this could be insignificant but given he seems to be trying to draw peoples attention to the need to change, so this colour choice could mean something.
