Now you understand the choreography isn't just naughty hip thrusts. They dance like their legs are broken, and their groins are torn, trying to catch up to the storks. And the hip thrusts also double as an f*k you to the system.

Also, RM uses the lines sam-po-sedea and oh-po-sedae in his verse in Dope. One of the things I love about BTS' lyrics is that they link lyrics between songs, so it's a continual conversation of their opinions and beliefs. Sometimes those things mature and change with time ("I wish I could love myself" becomes "I love, I love, I love myself!") and sometimes they stay the same (we are baepsae!). I've been an Army since 2015 and Baepsae has only become MORE meaningful and relevant over the years. BTS was ahead of its time and they ARE the Voice of Our Generation.

Remember that this has a lot of keystone concepts that are repeated in other songs. Dope uses the idea so 3/5/7 things you give up and also asks about giving them up. Not Today is a rallying cry for “Baepsae” and people who haven’t gotten the background on this don’t understand why they use that word. It’s such a kickass bad ass social commentary. We love it plus the punctuate the ideas with hip thrusts 😂🤣. You know to make Army pay attention to the message more.

Remember in the MV “Dope” where RM breaks away from the group and says “given up on 3,” then “given up on 5?” He was talking about this list of things young people have given up on that is referenced here.

So many levels to a BTS song. One of the reasons I love them. When the teasers are released for the comeback and for Festa, ARMYs will be analyzing not only every rubber band, but also why was it placed right there, what brand is it, does that brand have any connections to the BU or future concert locations. We know we might be clowns 🤡, but what if...????

RM talks about 3-5-7 in "Dope" about what younger generations have given up on; smart of Koreans to know what they're talking about with just the number reference. Yes, "passion pay" is essentially an unpaid internship in the US where you work to gain experience and it looks good on a resume. It seems like BTS's light-hearted/fun songs have the most political commentary, almost like they're saying it ironically or sarcastically. While they rage against the system/older generation, they don't let millennials/younger generation off lightly either (see Spine Breaker).

This is the reason I love their rap so much, and I haven't been a fan of rap in a long time. It is so much deeper than it initially appears, and the choreography often shows the message that the words convey. As ARMY we are always finding meanings in things that maybe weren't originally intended, but we enjoy it anyways and sometimes we get it right and that makes it worth all the struggles!

Good morning, Captain Roscoe! Oh so many things to ramble on about here...good thing I have my ☕ lol...first off, millenials (sp.) are not the only generation to be berated by a previous generation. I'm 53 and this song is completely relatable to me. One of the many things I love about these 7 young men is that their message reaches across generations. I am inspired, uplifted, saddened, (insert any other emotion here lol), by their songs just as much as my youngest daughter is. As for the hip thrusts...I basically cover my eyes and peak out between my fingers LOL. My mother's generation had Elvis and his hip moves that couldn't be shown on TV...when I was a teen and in my 20's, anything a band did that could be distorted into anything sexual in nature was a big 'no no', so when I watch BTS MV's with an upper thigh grab, a hip thrust or six, or OMG Jimin's Filter choreo from the online concert - I blush so hard my face hurts and I can't help but watch...from between my fingers covering my eyes of course. 🤣🤣

Passion Pay exists all across Europe for sure: "internships" are they called (lol not lol). Usually offered to students in their last year at university or other more hands-on studies. In Spain for instance it was very common before I left. They do the same work as any official employee in the end, but receive, with luck, just half the money, if any. I was lucky the companies I worked for used this system + benefits (so in the end they received the normal employee money, yeah... tricks). In Germany, where I work for 11 years now it is super common. I was actually surprised to see 13yo working, they do it as "Praktikum" between levels of Middle-school to high school? (I'm sorry I cannot translate the different education systems well, as in Spain we used to have traditionally primary and secondary education) It is common to see "kids" taking care of kids in Kindergarten (where I got exposed the first time to this), but they do work at car workshops too or at a bakery etc - they earn experience *coughcough* I thought this was also common practice in the US, to hire as "practice"/internships in order to pay less, plus the company earns state benefits as they are helping educate future manpower O_o

I can imagine how you feel Roscoe. You are not the only BTS reactor who is kinda lost in a way. This is just a kinda piece of advice, if you heard the Identical Twins Reactions channel, what they did is somehow created a schedule for a week. This is just an example that might help. ( Monday - music videos, Wed- anything goes videos, like try not to laugh Friday-Run Eps Sat - Rise of Bangtan or Live Perf) .. So you wouldn't have any confusion. If you just want. But I know somehow you will find your own how to manage the BTS rabbit hole. Good Luck and don't stress yourself. At the end of the day, it's still your decision and you can watch how you wanted to watch Bangtan.

As always, please don't think you have been "wrong." 1: We are talking about art, which is subject to interpretation; 2: There are many artists involved in the production of BTS media, and there are not explanations from every one of those people; 3: Every reactor brings their own background and point of view to a video. I have probably watched as many as 10 reactors watching the same video - classical musicians, jazz musicians, vocalists, hip hop/rap artists, metal-heads, choreographers, dancers, video editors, film-makers, visual artists, writers, therapists, teachers, boomers, gen-Xers, millennials, gen-Zers, children, people with autism, people from countries all over the world (mostly from English-speakers, though) - and yet, even after watching each video so many times, each reactor notices different things that teach me. Even those within the same categories! I can't speak for your other viewers, but I love the deep dives. I like both the quickies (because I get to see them sooner) and the more in depth videos - and I know you have at least some other viewers who feel the same way. I look forward to more! Do what you like. Maybe put in a request: "if you made it through the video this far, post a ___ emoji."

Okay so I have never commented this on another explanation reaction, but I think I should now. In the united states, it is technically illegal for an intern to be performing tasks that are essential to the business's operations. I know that is often overlooked and many people do not understand that. But it is the law and I hope if anyone reads this and is pursuing an internship, you make note of these regulations from the United States Labor Dept

@AngelaSealana
@AngelaSealana 2 жыл бұрын
@@ScarDragon I understand. But I have interned and I also supervise interns. During the application or interview process, candidates have the right to ask about a company's application of labor laws with regard to interns. It's kind of like what's happening with service jobs now... Few people were willing to take low pay and no benefits, so companies who needed personnel were forced to raise their offerings. Internship culture doesn't have to be predatory or abusive, and we can all do our part to make a difference. Bottom line: I hope those who apply will look for ethical employers, and I hope all interns will know the law.

10:00 Roscoe, I'd like to - gently - correct one thing you said. I don't think that ARMYs are easily bored by analyses of BTS' music & I know for a fact that there's no such thing as, "too deep," either. The BTS Universe wouldn't have been so wildly successful with the fan base if that was the case. The issue comes when reactors dive into analysing BTS lyrics & MVs without knowing or understanding the cultural context that they reside within. Yes, there are some conventions of cinematography, editing, song structure, metaphor, etc., that translate across cultures, but there are also artistic traditions, references & genres that exist well outside Western and/or U.S. conventions. When Western reactors assume that they can not only understand everything on their own, but then go on to explain to their audience from a place of authority, they're doing a disservice to themselves, their audience and to BTS + their creative team.

Thanks, Roscoe - loved you meeting this whole thang. .... and ... you know there's more, right. I suggest, just for fun, check out Paldongsang / Satoori Rap - a chaotic, lighthearted song about Korean regions and rivalries - and you will NEED DKDKTV's explanation from David! DKDKTV are Danny and David Kim - this one is Danny. David is ARMY, Danny less so, but they do some good work. Some of their items irritate me a bit (sometimes Danny likes to be a bit childishly provocative, and they can sometimes find themselves funnier than they actually are) but some of their explanations are very good at giving the gen to non-Korean ARMY. Their focus is on wider Kpop and entertainment in Korea so I am very selective on what I watch or ignore!
