@Hollow Skull Everyone can have their opinion on the actor's/actresses skills so I'm not going to argue with that :) For me he seems to be the best male actor of his generation ♡ And about the speech - I have to admit that I don't totally agree with all his views but he has a right to express them like everyone else, doesn't he? And I sometimes feel that people tend to think of the actor and his roles as one and simply forget that Joaquin had opinions like that (on veganism, climate change, racisim in the film industry and etc.) way before "Joker". He just wasn't that vocal about it or he was but not that many people cared as now when he became a true superstar. So he's using his platform. And he usually admits that he could do way more himself before preaching to others - many celebrities don't do that. So I don't know if he should lose all your respect for that. I'm kind of conflicted myself. Anyway, what are your thoughts? I'm sorry for such a long post, I'm just interested in the topic :)

So glad you did this video about Joaquin from his directors’ perspectives. This man has been a hidden gem for way too long. Those of us who love movies realize that although we might not love every movie he’s made, we’re still guaranteed that Joaquin will deliver a remarkable, nuanced performance that will linger long after the movie’s over. The success of Joker has probably terrified him since he can no longer fly under the radar and he’s officially considered an A list celebrity now. I still look forward to him continuing making brilliant choices and portraying complex, multi-dimensional characters. Thanks so much for this outstanding video.

@@bryanmmusic You have to consider that when Joaquin first worked with Van Sant, he was 20 and returning to work just a year after his brother's very public death, which Joaquin was witness to and which garnered him a lot of attention (some of it negative) from the press. The publicity got so bad, the family fled the country. Also, *To Die For* was Joaquin's return to the acting profession. After *Parenthood,* which was released when he was 14, he took a long break. When River died, Joaquin hadn't acted in four years. Furthermore, River's memory was still very fresh at the time, and he had been an acclaimed actor and Oscar-nominee. River said that Joaquin would be a better actor than him. Both good actors but he was right.
@djstarsign
@djstarsign 4 жыл бұрын
River was my idol because he was so eccentric. It was tough for me to watch Joaquin in the early days because he always lived in River’s shadow. But when he made Walk The Line, I felt he’d finally become his own person. And now he’s turned out to be one of the best actors of his generation. I loved his performance in that Woody Allen film. Very low key but played brilliantly.

I love Joaquin and James mangold but I wonder how James mangold feels about giving Joaquin some issues because of walk the line
@joana9039
@joana9039 4 жыл бұрын
I see your point. But if you're talking about the drinking problem Joaquin developed and which he had to fix in the rehab after filming, I don't think that one can blame the director alone. Still, it was Joaquin's choice to go full method that time. And, as far as I remember, Joaquin himself has told in one of his interviews that he was already leading quite a hedonistic lifestyle around that time. So acting in "Walk the Line" sort of contributed to the earlier problem in a way. But, of course, I don't know for sure 😊
@scarfacegaming9848
@scarfacegaming9848 4 жыл бұрын
Joana oh yeah I see your point as well obviously he chose to go full method but to a certain extent I feel like producers and directors with Joaquin allow and somewhat endorse him to do it as they’re more focused on the film and not Joaquins health so they care about getting a good character and not actually him

@joana9039
@joana9039 4 жыл бұрын
Well, I knew him before the internationally popular "Joker" :) And it is common for artists to experience several waves of popularity. I don't think it should bother anyone. For example, a few years ago, when "Bohemian Rhapsody" film came out, "Queen" suddenly got so many new fans! "Queen" was my one of my favourite bands since I was a little girl but I didn't complain and was happy that more and more people are getting to know their music 💛 So it's all good!

@@joana9039 i didn't mean you specifically 😁 i mean the new fans. i always thought that Joaquin was great since the beginning. (just my opinion) i just thought that he got popular with his more conventional role. i don't think this is his best role and he got popular for it (remember, just my opinion 😁). i just hoped that he would be more popular for Freddy Quill in The Master
@joana9039
@joana9039 4 жыл бұрын
@@acadia5898 I understand that you are not talking to me specifically, I've just shared my personal experience to better illustrate my point :) And your opinion is very welcome here 😊 I think it was almost inevitable that precisely "Joker" will bring a huge mainstream success for Joaquin. It's a big studio movie about the character that almost everyone knows or have heard of while "The Master" is smaller and more unconventional film. But "The Master" is a great piece of art and Joaquin was mesmerizing in it ❤ But I really loved him as Arthur Fleck/Joker as well - his performance seemed to me almost like a perfect combination of his best roles with additional magical spark in it 🔥😊
