Very happy to see your recent restoration and sailing video. You've done a great job bringing your boat back to life and are clearly enjoying it on the water. In early Summer of this year I bought Mirror 50361 as a fixer project. My boat is also red in color with the original bright interior. I haven't had mine in the water yet as I've been working on refinishing the interior as well as a refit on most of the running rigging. Cheers!

Thanks v much. Had a great sail with my daughter and were both keen to do more. Have u signed up to the Mirror association? I was going to but had to wait a bit or I would have paid for a year's dues that would have run out within two months. October now so should be OK. I'm keen to get the dates for next year's meets. Maybe see u out there

Yep. Fair point. I put this video up in a hurry. I'll make sure the narration is clearer next time.

Can you give the weight of glassfibre tape you used please ..a very interesting video.

Sorry I cannot remember the weight. Also the epoxy-resins.co.uk site seems to be unavailable so I cannot check. 5cm woven cross pattern medium weight from memory.

Hello, yes an interesting video and hello again to Mirror Cruising... I was wondering about the use of masonry paint and galvanised wire. When using masonry paint would I sand back to bare wood and then apply without a primer... what life expectancy does this have and what brand did you use. With the galvanised wire again the question would be life expectancy and breaking strains. A timely video as I have just collected a free Mirror built in 1969 sailed a few times and then spent its life upside down in a garage... just needs a refurb and bringing up to date a bit.

The wire had a 65kg rating. Any strains approaching this would likely be tearing the Hull apart. Galvanised should last at least 5 seasons I think, but we shall see. The masonry pain came from B&q. Not sure of the brand. Fairly standard stuff I think. I sanded the previous Toplac paint back quite heavily but not all the way back to wood. Perhaps I should have varnished as a final coat but I ran out of time for this season. We shall see how it holds up.

@@directorstu Interesting stuff... when you were running down wind were you cleating your mainsheet off in the jib sheet cleats?
@directorstu
@directorstu 4 жыл бұрын
@@P943044S I need to sort the ropework out. I don't like the standard layout for the mainsheet where the block runs from the back of the boom to the helmsman. I think the more modern arrangement where it runs to a block at the centre thwart would work better. I thought about buying a fancy jamming system like this. www.sailboats.co.uk/allen-compact-mainsheet-jammer-base?gclid=Cj0KCQjwrMHsBRCIARIsAFgSeI0SrFOMM1JdCtg5ZRuf1qY5rv_a4Fa4u72zZiCLMN5tTlsOTzPx_10aAtYDEALw_wcB but actually a block n spring and a standard jam cleat would be fine and is about £100 cheaper. www.marinestore.co.uk/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=plb01170&gclid=Cj0KCQjwrMHsBRCIARIsAFgSeI1MSriMjRqec2y5KeCK1J91GmIp8o3CX4n3uENQuDv2wiELuK1rVfsaAm_LEALw_wcB Currently I just hold the main sheet but that's not ideal.

@@directorstu That was a really enjoyable video reminding us of sunny times in our boats. You can tack facing forward with the aft mainsheet if wished, and I find it the best way. Just pass the tiller behind you. The forward mainsheet system seems to put string in everyone's way. I think cleating the mainsheet is a bit risky and not recommended, although I do wrap a couple of turns around the tiller sometimes.
@directorstu
@directorstu 4 жыл бұрын
@@msf60khz I agree about the mainsheet cleat being a bit risky. A good compromise is the ratchet blocks which I've not used before but have purchased and am pleased I did. I think this will take some of the strain out of holding the mainsheet but will let it run if needed. Fair point about the string getting in the way. I hope to be fitting it all in the next few weeks so I'll mock it up and see how it feels.

• Video - very good • music - annoying and obtrusive A potentially good and useful video marred seriously by unnecessary loud music that compete and sometime smoothers what is be said. The Voice is What's Important In refurbish videos we draw to it to learn from your experience and ideas, your voice explaining you're thinking and what you're doing is what's important. Clearly you spend a good deal of time on this video, but it appears you didn't to listen to the finish product. I find it hard to believe you would purposely (after listening to your own video) that you would place it on KZbin with the annoying music frequently overwhelming your production (your voice). I thank you for your time and effort and for sharing. I found I could watch it but watch and listen in five minute sessions, going off to other video and coming back for another segment. Good luck with future videos and I commend you on the results of your Mirror Refurb.
