First check what version you have prior to starting, you might be on the latest and not even know it. From the HR - Hit MENU - Settings - Info and test - Genie Info
CE (beta) software is generally released on Friday night and Saturday nights from 11 PM ET to 3:00 AM ET. - Last Beta was 0X1210 and they often will take a few weeks off these days
Monday to Friday 3 AM ET to 7 AM ET is the latest non-beta release (0X11B2), after 7 AM ET the software stream goes back to 0X11B1 which is known as the national release. Older GUI is gone as of 5-17-18, can no longer downgrade to it, sorry.
Note when upgrading to CE firmware (Friday and Sat 11 PM to 3:00 AM ET) carries some risk and as with any beta it can either delete your recordings or brick the receiver. With that warning said this has not been experienced by anyone with any of the latest releases but again must warn you.

System Slow even after a reboot?
Try this command from the search menu If you got this far down here is another secret command :)
Search for "CLEARMYBOX" from any client or HR and chose
This will clear out the data (not any recordings or settings)
WARNING: The Guide data will clear and download again, it will also clear all your 'ToDo's until the Guide gets repopulated which can take a few hours but usually much less. Note the HR receiver will reboot and will take a few minutes to come back up, just be patient.
This has helped many with slow scrolling in the guides or menus get back to normal. Also has helped a few other issues like freezing but mainly slowness. Sometimes just rebooting the HR once in a while clears that up too.

TIP: If your RF remote remote doesn't allow for the command to work try an older IR DTV remote to force the update. Also setting your remote to IR from RF will work as well. On the remote, Press and hold {MUTE} and {SELECT} until the light flashes three times. Then press Press 9 8 1 and {SELECT}. The remote will flash four times and should now be reset. This puts your Genie remote into IR mode, after just go into the menu settings remote and reprogram it to RF. You can also try hitting 000 then 0 2 4 6 8 has been said to work too if you are having issues.
How to upgrade the HS-17 - You have to unplug the wire for internet for a wired connection, then push the reset button and as soon as the white button comes on not until it comes on push add client on top until the white light blinks then let go and your off until it comes back up (finishes update).
If you are having issues with getting the logos or posters including on-deman working after downloading CE, enable this by doing a search for "IAMANEDGECUTTER" (type it and select it). then exit the menu, when you go back into the menu you will see "Misc. Options" at the bottom. This enables different backend DTV servers to and after a few hours the logos, posters and on-demand will return.

Folks 0X1088 has become the daily update in the stream, it's no longer beta and is now the standard customer release version when getting updated. As said prior any version in the 3 AM ET to 7 AM ET slot during the week is the latest customer release. During Friday and Saturday night 11 PM ET to 3 AM ET only they release beta (CE) software most weekends but not all and from time to time they take a break. The last two weeks there had not been any CE (BETA) releases. I report them weekly here when they will be happening.

There was an updated last night CE (Beta) 0X1100 that actually increased the font size but it's HOT mess right now in my opinion and actually prefer the smaller fonts, go figure. I will post a video possible later today or tomorrow if time permits. You can download it during the CE window from 11 PM to 3 AM ET Saturday 6/23 into Sunday 6/24 (Eastern Time Zone)

Techfan, thanks a bunch for this video. I will add to my experience..I tried using remotes rc65x and rc73 with no results. I used my harmony 650 with 000 2 4 6 8 and worked first try. Go figure

A few HR's have issues RF during boot which is why at the end of the video I added the bit on changing your remote from RF to IR. A small population of folks have this issue and it's solved with IR or another remote like you did. Over time helping folks I found the the bit with the 000 to work when nothing would work. Looks like DTV in the latest releases (1040 & 1082) have removed the logos in the guide on the left. The good news is that the guide is much faster to scroll, the bad news is you have to read the tiny text for channel names and numbers. I have heard that AT&T is looking to better the menus and guide in the next few months, we will see if that comes true!

We all welcome these future improvements, I think the community would like it quicker as you can see from the feedback on the AT&T forum and here. I also read the posts on the AT&T forum and track the changes here week to week via the CE's. So far it's only tiny improvements and nothing major aside from them removing the logos in the guide. I think that was done for another reasons and not for the good of the community.

Thanks, it's a mixed bag by many but those same folks start to like it after getting over the initial shock of change. I am okay with it now because it has come a long way since the first update back in November and I am sure DTV will continue to improve it as time goes on. Tech Fan, I actually do like the new GUI. 0X1088 now has the guide grids closely resembling the old GUI, as opposed to 0X1037 (which has the logos in the guide grids). I would be very surprised if the 0X1100 series becomes the latest customer new updates & no longer CE like 0X1088...

I think they have a few revisions to go and they need to fix the lost recordings bug which has your list appear and disappear at times. If you reboot it brings it back or delete something. Probably another CE version tonight or next week, they do skip at times. So far I haven't heard if there will be one tonight

You can download the latest firmware early in the morning during the week days which is from 3 AM to 7 AM Eastern.

I just downloaded it overnight (shortly after 3am ET) & other than the aforementioned larger fonts, you notice that the guide grid is back to 6 lines (just like in the old 2012-era GUI) & also, there is now a vertical blue line from top-to-bottom indicating the programs in progress. The guide is now back to displaying the numerical month/date opposite the day of the week (Example: Fri, 7/27). Also, note the slightly slower scrolling effects. And last, but not least, when you hit the enter button on the lower right of your DIRECTV remote, there are 2 lines displaying the channel that's tuned to & the next channel down (Example: 6 WPVI (HD feed) at the top & 6 WPVI (SD feed) at the bottom).

Code is updated often, I gave up listing each firmware change, you can see it all on www.redh.com/dtv/index.php?r=C This will change to newer software overnight into the early morning. 0X12dc is the active production firmware, not the latest but what they feel is safe.

Thanks for the helpful video, however, I am cancelling DirecTV. Their prices keep going up and now this new GUI is the last straw. The fonts are so small, it's ridiculous. And the guide interface, in general, is confusing and not customer friendly. Going back to Comcast.

It's a common complaint, just keep in mind the font color and sizes are similar to Comcast but pricing for sure will be less. DTV pricing is expensive since you can't bundle it like you can with most broadband providers but I am a DTV customer for the picture quality which in my area far surpasses what Optimum puts out as well as interface as a whole. So it comes down to where you live and what options you have, more options lower the price, less the higher the price etc. Unfortunately many providers are moving to this type of guide format and GUI style so just keep that in mind, but as you can expect some are better than others.

Hey Tech fan we still have the issue with our list disappearing that started ever since the latest update came out. Is there a new software update that I can download to fix this issue? It’s so annoying I find myself having to reboot my box every 24-48 hours just to get my play list to come back! I’ve had ditectv for over 20 years now and I love having directv but my wife has had it with this play list issue. Any help would be great thanks

There was version 1145 in the stream this weekend in the CE time slot (11 PM ET to 2 AM ET) which I think fixes that issue, however that was over this weekend but might show up in the Monday 3 AM ET to 7 AM time slot / stream but I am not 100% sure. RedH is down right now so it's harder to tell what's in the stream as quickly. If you ever start a download and it's not what you wanted you can just reboot. I personally only find the show information (about the episode) to be too small, they have so much wasted space up there. In the guide I can read the shows listed in the grid and I want to note that over time they have made some slight changes but most folks just want different colors and or font size. I think DTV will be making some changes over the next few months on font color or size but nothing drastic or too far from what we see today. This look is similar to the industry trends and other carriers are following as well. Generally folks don't like change and this is a big change etc.

Hopefully they increase the font size or color soon so it satisfies the customer base as they are all talking about leaving DTV. I have DTV for the picture quality and lesser of the hardware. In my area the only alternative is Alticeone which has a UI just the same as DTV and they force you into a closed system (Router / wireless) all in one box.

It seems like, whenever a DirectTV DVR box malfunctions, the television unit that it's connected to, begins to malfunction with it, until it just won't turn on (especially since the new interface update). It took me replacing my television a couple of times, for me to begin making the correlation. Unless DirectTV has it in writing that they will replace all television units that no longer power on, after being connected to their DVR, I will never take the risk of signing up with DirectTV, ever again! Now, I'm concerned about the cost of having to replace my privately-owned, really expensive, large-screen, high-definition, television units, AGAIN! It seems like the cost of DirectTV is WAY more than what we are billed for. I wish that I ONLY had a billing issue with them, because this is a whole new level of being screwed by AT&T.

There really are no major changes in the latest betas as well 1088 which I updated to last night, I would wait till AT&T / DTV makes a major update to the fonts/ size before going the beta route. I will post here when they finally improve it as well as I will post another video showing it. If you want to update to the beta watch my video as I show exactly how to do it. For the beta it's only available during Friday and Saturday @ 11:15 PM to 2:45 AM to be exact or check RedH as I demo in the video. The link is in the notes too as well as some tips and most weekends have beta updates but not all and only during the time window.

Correct, 1088 has become the daily release about two weeks ago, I updated the notes above but not a note here, I will add one. The difference between 1088 and 1037 is just the logos in the guide. With 1037 the logos are still there on the left in the guide and with 1088 they removed them to speed scrolling up and down. Take your pick, I like to be able to move quicker in the guide so I am on 1088. Hope that helps!

Yup they did remove them in 1040 and the latest CE 1082, they are still there when you change channels in the upper right. No idea why they did but some say they could bring it back later.

Lots to grasp here so I can help for sure, in order to upgrade back to the new menus you just need to follow the 3 steps I outlined in the video during the 0X1037 window. So the only caveat is that you need to upgrade between 11:15 PM to :2:45 AM Eastern Time Zone when 0X1037 is in the stream. Now your receiver might auto update overnight if you just installed it today, but it might not be flagged to receive it and if not it will not update on it's own. So there is no harm is updating yourself, it will not update twice, only once as when it gets flagged it will see it's at the correct version. So in short just reboot between the window timeframes I outlined, quickly hit 0 2 4 6 8 first the first blue splash screen comes up and the update will start. If it doesn't start, try again, also see the notes above if you can't get the download to engage (show more). Sometimes you have to change your remote temporary from RF to IR (rarely do you have to do that but want to note it) Let me know if all works out and glad to help!

So are we talking about how DTV pushes updates or forcing an update and being able to do it at a different time window? DTV pushes updates rarely but when they do it will be during the window timeframes I outlined in the video and in the notes (overnight). So the answer is no really for either as you are at the mercy of the stream if we are talking about new updates. They base the times on when there would be less impact to customers as well as commercial use etc. So how come you want to change the times?

Pushed updates are rare, in the last 6 months maybe all of 3 have occurred. When they do happen it's a 10 minute outage. As the new GUI software matures it will be even less, even more rare to take place. Hope that helps.

Works on the HR's and needs to be done from the HR. Put your remote into IR mode and give it a shot. I put into the notes at the bottom how to change it over or just give it a look up. If you have an HS-17 the process is different which I also noted. If that doesn't work report back as I have other workarounds.

HR54 Its the best right now, HS will get there but not yet and I actually doubt DTV will produce another box for a long time if ever. I see them getting out of the sat business and going for straight streaming but could be wrong. Wireless MINI's menus stutter at times.

After update (HR44/200) the setting to show all recordings no longer works and i can only see local recordings. Before the update we had the filter set to only show local and now no matter what i do i can not get it to show all anymore my other dvr (HR24/100) is still on the old gui if that matters. Any ideas? I found a forum where someone had same issue and fixed it by downgrading back and setting to show all in the old gui and then upgrading the firmware again but now downgrading is no longer an option. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated

You are correct can't downgrade starting this week, they removed the old GUI software from the stream. Also they moved 1088 into the daily morning stream, so maybe update and see if was a bug that was fixed? So you can only see whats on the HR44 but not what's recovered on another HR in your home, but how about in reverse? Just want to make sure I have this straight? I do wonder if the HR24 being on the older software is the issue, I will ask around but I also suggest posting on one of the Directv forums too that you read the issue on.

The HR24 can see all the recordings on both devices. Also we have just a simple box that can see all the recordings as well. So only the HR44 for some reason can now only see its own recordings. The problem with direct tv forums is everyone is just complaining about how they can't read the text anymore. I have seen this fix a few things but this one I am afraid I can't offer much help since I do not have two HR's. I just have the HR54 with mini's sprinkled everywhere.

We have called support after over an hour on the phone they finally understood the problem and escalated to "engineering" now we wait and see if they ever get back to us

There is no actual stop button, you either switch to a channel during playback or arrow left and select another recording, you don't need to stop a program. Changing the channel will stop the recording which is the most effective way. You can also use the previous button "Prev" which take you back to the last channel you where watching and this will also stop the recording playback. If you also are watching a recording, pause and turn off the box it will stop it as well, this motion allows for you to also go to another set to pickup where you left off as the others do too. I guess DTV felt the stop button was redundant or not needed etc.

You can't, it's one size, one color fits all :( This is a common complaint and many folk are feeling your pain. Only remedy is to get closer or a larger TV right now which is not ideal for 99% of the community.

My reciver wont show the Channels icons ! Like CBS fox ! Why ?

If you are talking about the guide, DTV removed the channel icons months ago, they are still there when you change channels in the upper right side or when you hit the info button. Just no longer in the guide which I suspect was done to speed to channel scrolling up and down. I miss them as I like them.

Ask them to see what version they have, MENU > Settings > Info > Genie, I think last version to have it was 0X1037. These are the icons in the guide that are gone, it's still there when you hit the info button on the upper right side.

This is a common request but give it a few weeks to adjust, DTV has no plans to go back to the old GUI anytime soon but the word on the street is improvements are coming soon. Wish I could offer more but as of this week you can't even force a rollback to the old GUI any longer :(

I'm sorry I ever forced it to upgrade. This new UI is so ugly, it's atrocious! Whoever decided on this gray, bland and horrible new layout, guide and playlist should be fired! I just want to go back to the old layout.

amen brother amen, this is what we are stuck with, all I can offer is the hope to be on a newer version that improves it. So far all they have done since release is stabilize it and as of late offer larger logos, that's it. Sad right?

You're absolutely right.... I just don't know what the hell they were thinking in order to pass this. I may try to downgrade back but I know eventually we'll all be stuck with this. As many forums and hundreds of complaints say, why fix something that isn't broken to begin with? When you fast forward, 1/3 of the bottom of the screen is in that ugly gray with a timeline of the show. I think if enough people complain, they will do something about it, much like SnapChat's new interface....people hated it. Edit, I'm in the process of downgrading. Thanks to your video, I had no idea I had to do the 0,2,4,6,8 that fast.

According to the AT&T forum they are aware of the shortcomings and are working to fix it by summer, who knows the truth there but hopefully it get's to point where the user can choose what looks best for them. The one size fits all mentality just doesn't cut it. At least let folks select color or have an option to increase font sizes. Also you can downgrade during the day for most HR's (not all and check RedH prior). Since you forced the upgrade you are not on the list to get the new GUI as of yet so you can buy more time. I am guessing fairly soon they will flag the remaining and you will just be back to where you are at now. I always suggest to folks to give it sometime to get used to it, many who hated it first actually like it later on. We will see, but thanks for posting as well.

Yeah, it tried to tell me the receiver needs to restart last night in the middle of the night. This was several hours after I reverted back. I clicked on "Later". I guess I will just hope it doesn't update and then like you said, revert back during the day, if it does. I tried to like 1 single thing about it and I couldn't find anything lol It's hideous. It wouldn't be so bad if it wouldn't block a 3rd of the screen when pausing, fast-forwarding at the bottom and then in the list show the shows as huge rectangular blocks. But this is corporate America....we change what we want and you either like it or don't. They didn't bother getting anyone's input before deciding on this new design which means all they are after is money. I've had DirecTV since 1997 so in 21 years, it may just be time to switch. I am just waiting for Google Fiber to hit my area.

Call them at 1877-999-1083. That is the loyalty department. Tell them you aren't satisfied with the new look and thinking of canceling....this is what I did and to keep me, they offered me $20 off for the month. Not much but I would encourage everyone to just call them and email them as much as possible of being dissatisfied. Big conglomerates like AT&T need consumers to keep pushing to switch for them to take notice and make changes.

Tech Fan yes, just got it tonight. Thank you for all the extremely helpful info. The guide and show logos/pics weren’t loading but your instructions to search that term then Misc. Options appeared & all worked like a charm. Keep up the great work! New subscriber of yours for sure!

Thanks! Just keep in mind DTV removed the LOGOS from the guide on the left side to speed up scrolling, you can still see them when changing channels one by one on the upper right.

Tech Fan Thanks! I was just wondering why that was missing after I let everything download last night. I do see all the channels logos in the bar. Is it normal that not all shows in the guide & playlist have their photos downloaded when I upgraded the guide around 3am ET? // CE0x1086 - 5-4-18

They will continue to re-populate over the next day, sometimes they are cleared and have to download again. So yes it's normal but doesn't happen with every update just some.
