It's called a "Domino Joiner", similar to a biscuit joiner. It has a depth gauge and alignment capability to burrow uniform sized pockets in the wood for a complimentary domino shaped "plug".

I absolutely can not get enough of your videos.. I watch at least 5 of them every day, if not more.. I just wish I had the funds to build up such a collection of tools and knowledge to be able to build like you do.. I have to say though, I do learn a lot just from watching what you do, so thanks for sharing all these great builds in such great detail! They're wonderful, man.

where do you get a 2 foot compass I have a project i've been putting off because I need a compass that can draw a 3 foot diamater circle, I may just bolt two pieces of wood together with a hole in the end of both to put a sharpened dowel rod and a pencil into.

Awesome stuff. Had a doubt though : Why was cutting the 'ring' not done directly out of a board, but was rather done in segments - then stuck - then cut? Couldn't figure out, I might be missing something obvious. Thank you in advance MR.DiResta, big fan.

why did you use table saw to make a circle at the beginning and then 3 minutes in use a router to make a circle. The router looks a heck of a lot easier and much safer too.

What kind of jointer was that at 2:20 ? It is different from biscuit jointers that I am used to seeing.

That's a Festool Domino.

Yes, very much so. The Domino is perhaps the world's most over-engineered jointer. It cuts a round-cornered mortise in the side of the workpiece using an oscillating milling cutter. Because of the complexity of the mechanism used it is almost entirely hand built, and every functional component is made to an almost ridiculous degree of precision.
