Dirk Nowitzki has emotional final game with Mavericks | NBA Highlights

Dirk Nowitzki plays the final game of his 21-year NBA career on the road against the San Antonio Spurs. Dirk was brought to tears before the game due to the Spurs' heartfelt video tribute, followed by a passionate introduction by their PA announcer. Dirk plays 32 minutes, scoring 20 points and pulling down 10 boards for the 411th double-double of his career. After checking back into the game in the 4th quarter with all eyes on him, Dirk buried the final shot of his career and exited the game to endless applause. Seconds later, at the final buzzer, members of both teams were there to congratulate Nowitzki on his historical career.

I think one of the reasons this hit him so hard is because this video was presented by the Spurs, a franchise that he fought his hardest games against for 21 years. The rivalry they had when Tim and all the guys were there was INSANE. It's definitely the end of an era that gave us some of the most fluid and amazing basketball we'll most likely ever see.

I honestly can not think of a better road game for Dirk to go out on. Dallas was his home, and San Antonio was that neighbor rival. The Mavs-Spurs rivalry has such a storied history with so much mutual respect from legends on both sides. When get that kind of appreciation shown to you by someone outside of your own home, you know you made a difference.

One of the classiest players to step foot on the court. It's amazing that the arch rival of your team does this for you at the end of your career. That just shows that it was always about respect. Those Tim vs Dirk games were some of the greatest matchups of our generation and he will be missed. Truly a revolutionary player for both the way a game is played as an OG stretch big as well as opening the doors even more open for the Euroball players that came after him.
