Just finished part 1 and 2. Just wanted to say your production is on par with some of those huge channels with an entire crew. Very much not what you'd expect from a channel this size. Keep it up man, been loving seeing your adventures 😘

Love the adventure but dang you gotta get some more protection than a helmet. 7:28 t-shirt, regular pants, and sneakers, just asking for scrapes and twisted ankles.
@LandonBishoff
@LandonBishoff 9 ай бұрын
I hear you brother! But sometimes you just gotta go for it and realize if you are waiting for everything to always line up it'll never happen. It wasn't in the budget for these guys to go and drop tons of extra money on all the gear. And the whole protection debate never ends. Boots, riding pants, its never actually enough.. You need knee braces, padded riding gear, chest protector, neck brace. The reality is riding motorcycles can be dangerous and no amount of gear will ever change the fact that it's a dangerous sport. Im not anti protection and having gear at all. Im with you on that.. I'm just way more and I mean way more "do whatever you gotta do to live a beautiful life" All three of these friends bought motorcycles for the first time on this trip and this was a way for them to get some exposure to the sport. As you can see by the end of the video it turned out okay. So I think in this case risking some scrapes and twisted ankles is worth getting to have the experience. Otherwise it's that or not going at all.

Just watched this and your AZBDR back-to-back. Excellent adventures! On your AZ trip you remind me of the kid in the movie "Into the Wild". Fortunately, you survived. Your enthusiasm in meeting folks along the way, and accepting challenges was just great film. Oh, and BTW, safety gear? We don't need no stinkin' safety gear LOL!!!!

Watched #3 yesterday and this one this evening. Very engaging adventure series you have going here. Looking forward to #1 and Baha in - what - half a year? I'm wondering if you bring any chain lube? It's said that new chains - from the 2000s don't need lube but lubing a chain allows one to check a lot more than the chain on a long run. Not nearly full disclosure, my first new bike was a Ducati Monza in 1963. The newest is a 2020 Desert Sled. You're on to something here, Landon. It's not a hundred % fun, but it's a hundred % adventure. Motor on . . .

@LandonBishoff 2 жыл бұрын
Ohhh Desert Sled is sweet! And actually I just started the Baja trip, I’m going to be editing the videos as I go, so hopefully I can keep the same good energy in the shorter day by day format. For chains I don’t have like a drip line or anything. For the BDRs I’m fine just tuning them and then doing a good amount of service when I get home. For this Mexico trip I’ll get the chain serviced as I go in moto shops since they are very where down here

Hello, what an excellent adventure, very motivating. I also have a KTM EXC 450, I love this bike, it is super versatile, but I would like to ask you how often you changed the engine oil during the trip, this issue seems to me to be the most uncomfortable on a trip like the one you made, according to the manual it should be every 15 hours... how did you handle this issue?
@LandonBishoff
@LandonBishoff 3 ай бұрын
Well I specifically have a KTM500 exc so it is a little different, but since I extend the oil out to about 1K miles when I do soft long distance riding like this. So I didn’t change the oil on this trip. I watch the oil pretty closely and if I feel like it’s breaking down a bit faster, or the color seems off I swap it. So far it seems like 1,000 miles is a pretty good spot. Taco moto makes an oil filter that can push it out even further.

@@LandonBishoff WABDR was just so much fun and really came off without a hitch. My first BDR, but I've done a lot of ADV Camping and off roading, but it was really fun to have this route to follow and not have to make a lot of decisions and planning. My R1250GS felt like a nearly perfect bike for the trip as a whole. There were times when a smaller bike would have been nice and certainly faster. But there's still long stretches of relatively good gravel roads, and for the 600 mile road ride home, the comfort of the GS was definitely appreciated....and seeing a Grisly Bear on the last day just 20 miles south of Canada was a real treat as well as a bit of a scare.

We used the Lexin G16.. To be honest I wouldn't recommend it though. It worked and served its purpose, but with 4 people it was very choppy and dropped off a lot. We messed with it quite a bit and just the connection wasn't super great. I imagine with just 2 people its probably fine. hope this helps Michael!

Thanks a ton Charles! I actually don't wear any armor😬 Ive just never worn it for some reason, and haven't made the step to researching something id really like. I would love to wear knee braces, but ultimately haven't invested into them yet. Sorry I'm not to much help there haha

Brother I cant complain! It's been a great bike for me.. And I'll put a big stress on me. I don't think its realistically a good bike for most people. Its not comfortable and the maintenance interval is super quick however for me I love it. You can see while I was in mexico I had a big issue with my countershaft. But that was 100% negligence on my part and not the bikes fault. So on behalf of the bike I have been thoroughly impressed. One thing ill also say is the bike seems to be sensitive to water. In some deeper water crossings i've had the bike turn off. You wait a little and it starts up and runs normal after, it also doesn't do good in hot stand still traffic at all. but its rare im in traffic haha

@mattbillenstein 2 жыл бұрын
@@LandonBishoff Yeah, I ride mine stock - it runs great and has plenty of power. The Taco Moto guys claim 70hp tuned which seems like total overkill to me in the dirt.

@@mattbillenstein Yeah you know what I im curios about. If you put a tune on it, does that essentially have a negative impact on the overall lifetime of the bike since its running harder than its meant to....Or did KTM actually design it to run like that in the first place and just Boggs it down to meat emissions?

Hey Michael! Yeah so you forsure could the only big problem I see is if you do the expert section in Moab. Chickens out corner would be extremely difficult to go up. We went down and it was challenging, I can't imagine trying to go up all loaded up. Other than that I don't see why not. Really your just looking for the snow to clear up in the Units. Your also watching temperature and heat down in southern Utah. Also if you can do the expert section I would highly recommend it. Its been my favorite section out of all the BDRS I've done!

Just discovered your channel and watched all of your vids. Excellent footage and editing. I'm in Utah County and I have a CRF300L Rally. Got a couple questions if that's ok. 1. What month did you do the UTBDR? 2. How difficult was that expert section on a scale of 1-10? I did the White Rim trail earlier this year. Hoping to do the UTBDR next year but I want to time it right so there's not too much snow in the Uintahs. Thanks in advance and great videos. 👍

Thanks my friend! We started the Utah BDR on May 28th 2022. how difficult was it is a pretty difficult question to answer because its all relevant to rider, and also the bike you are on. For me id say scale of 1-10 it was 2. My bike is a street legal dirt bike basically, I come from a dirt bike desert background so it was all familiar. Literally the only hard spot was chickens out corner. That feature I would give it a 6 in level of difficulty. I couldn't imagine a heavy bike going up that. Down I guess, but it would get banged up pretty good. 300L would be a great bike to do that trip on. One of the guys was own a 250L in our group. Yeah the Uintahs is tricky, you can watch the Bald Mountain Pass Camera and look at the snow there. also your kinda at the mercy of when they decide to open that road and plow. They normally open it by June, but its never a guarantee. Overall hoped this helped, at the end of the day just get out there and you'll figure it out! 👍 Cheers
