Hey man at 3:00 you show all you raw cells directly on your concrete floor, concrete when poured in a large pad becomes very alkaline and can hold a charge from the ground which can mess with the battery chemistry. You should put literally anything under them, like cardboard or a piece of thick plastic like something you'd put under a water heater for drips. The same process can also mess up the floor and make the concrete brittle and the top layer can start to fall apart like chalk.

Will, they are talking about "rolling blackouts" in the midwest this summer because they have retired some power plants because they have been "replaced" with wind power. How about a video of a very basic UPS system which would allow a homeowner to run important things like freezers, air conditioners or oxygen generators during the times the choose to shut off our power because they choose to punish us.

@Lonny Wilcox Yeah, I have heard grumblings about that possibility here in Illinois. My plan is to throw together a simple setup using 2 EG4 batteries, that EG4 inverter/charge controller that Will showed recently, and as many solar panels as I can afford. Those 2 EG4 batteries will give me 10kwh to run the bare essentials overnight, and the solar panels should keep me going through the day.

@@WillProwse Absolutely .. This has been my plan as entry into Solar. I don't own where I live, so I can't put Solar on my roof (Best I can do is a couple of panels on the porch which is not ideal) but I DO want to have a home backup system (start small then add more capacity) that I can then parley into a full scale Solar when I move into my own house.

And if you want them to never move on concrete, that type of racking has small holes in the bottoms usually so you can shoot those concrete nails into the floor so vibration cant move the rack. (Not that batteries vibrate, but some other type of equipment might.)

Wow Will, such a pretty setup. I spent all night kicking myself for not going with server rack batteries for my current build. You did a great job and it looks so professional. I have limited solar exposure here so fast recharging is my biggest hurdle. I went with 24 volts instead of 48 as it has a bank of Aims 12/24 chargers and the choice of several different fuel type generators including a diesel driven 400 amp 24 volt externally regulated alternator unit. Signature did not seem to have the 24 volt server rack batteries available when I started piecing this together. This one has a 6000 watt split phase low frequency inverter charger that can take 240 volts off an Onan 7500 diesel gen set. It has a dozen Chins 300 AH batteries in 2S6P setup and 120 amp Growatt MPPT just in case the sun shines. 46,000 watt hours. Going to power my 900 watt microwave oven and clock radio. I thought I was the only one up at 3AM ordering stuff. 4 ought cable ends and 3X shrink tubing this time. Keep up the good work. Electric Hummer.....holy smokes!

Hi back! I put that used Westinghouse steam turbine generator into the wood fired cogen plant behind Blue Diamond at 20th and C Street after that Elliott TG set came apart violently and put a hole in the conference room. That was 1989. Where did time go? I heard that they took that facility out some years ago and sold it. They burned almond shells and wood chips to make steam and electricity. This was right after the Loma Prieta quake when I first started in on battery backup for my house.

I got 8 of those shelves for $120 each from Sears a few years ago. I have them stacked so I have 4 shelves that are about 8 feet tall each. They are solid as a rock, but if you stack them, be sure to use the included wall anchors. While I doubt they'll tip over when loaded on the bottom with batteries, better safe than sorry. Dewalt also makes a larger shelf than these that is about 6 feet wide and the shelves are thicker too.

I never put up anything heavy without casters. Even if you use them only once or twice, being able to move a heavy item around is worth it's weight in gold. The rack on the left (the Signature Solar one) comes with plates where you can attach castors. Unfortunately, you have to use the 1/2 inch screw on castors with a nut. Because the hole configuration they have is like for some rare European castor alignment, which is ridiculous. It took me hours to find out that I couldn't use the four holes.

In Arizona a lot of people are getting enough panels to cover 80% of their electricity needs, that flows directly into SRP's metering system, where SRP stores it and sells it back as needed...very cheap rates on the 20% that you would use from SRP, and then no need to buy batteries...thx

Can you please cover temperature control for solar system? For instance I want to put system in an outside shed. Do I need to keep that air conditioned? What are the temp levels needed? btw I am a solar virgin so only in the research stage. Trying to design the system for needs.

I've heard from a couple of places that the wind turbine needs its own controller. Assuming I have all 48V generation, and each source with its own controller, is it really as simple as hooking up all 3 controllers to one battery? Do all 3 controllers need to talk to each other or can each be programed to stop charging when the battery reaches X percent?@@WillProwse

I'd like a scissor lift like that. But I want one that goes lower when fully lowered. The 330lb model just goes to 11.9" and I'd like something that goes all the way to the floor. I might need a different type of device.
@johnm2056
@johnm2056 2 жыл бұрын
That will be hard to do as the piston and lifting scissors have to be stored below the platform. Perhaps a pallet jack those go down to near floor level. They only lift a foot or so. That you could then transfer to the lifting platform.
@toronado455
@toronado455 2 жыл бұрын
@@johnm2056 Exactly, I'd need two gizmos. Unless I could fabricate an "L" shaped extension that attaches to the side of the scissor lift and is flush with the floor at the bottom. But that could end up very off balance.

@@toronado455 two lifts with the L off the side and welded together you slide the L uder the item and lift both platforms st the same time maybe sandbags on the platforms and using the welded together parts of the L s to carry the load.

I have a "mobile electric lifter" with a screw jack that lifts the shelf. It runs on a small lead acid battery and has 150kg and 300kg capacities. There are versions that go all the way down to the floor. Check for example "Liftex Battery Electric Work Positioners". There are manual versions also like "Manual box lifter".

right but still early days. I envision a system or shelf system where one could easily add or remove cells to add/remove capacity like in computer servers for storage drives. this server rack style is fine for single or two but adding more capacity becomes awkward.
