We just got two today to work with a couple t2i's. Works wonderfully. The delay isn't much longer than it is when we use a usb cable. We use ours with cranes and any time we used usb cables longer than about 10 feet we had disconnection/communication issues too often to actually complete a video shoot. With this wifi router those issues are no longer present.

Having used the dslr controller app as a external monitor for shoots for the last 6 months I have to say this looks like a another piece of gear to add to the bag. Now that I use multicam with the dslr controller app on my Nexus 7 and S4 this process has me hoping i can monitor all my cams from one tablet someday. -Torrean Jonathan

I'm curious to know if a second TL-MR3040 unit in repeater mode can be used to extend the range? CamRanger claims 150-300 ft, but I've seen only a fraction of that reported regarding the TL-MR3040. Do you know of any side-by-side comparisons? My assumption is that they would be the same, and the CamRanger's number is wildly exaggerated

But there's no way to mount the transmitter directly to the camera. It doesn't even have a way to mount it to a rail system unless you use tape or rubber bands or something.

Demo'd in the video is a nexus 7 FHD, but you could easily get away with an older Nexus 7 tablet for around $80 or so used on ebay.

I got the TL-MR3040 and on the unit says VER:2.5 do I still need to download the firmware from www.dslrfilmnoob.com/2013/12/11/tp-link-tl-mr3040-wireless-field-monitor-dslr-controller/ as you directed or not...? cuz you don't specify if one needs to just upgrade the firmware to a later version other from 1 or 2 or we actually need to change the firmware to the one you specified in order to make work, please help...!

Firmware is for the MR3040, some have had luck with other units but it's a crap shoot as to weather it'll support the firmware.

@onelonedork some reason i tried it all and I am unable to connect the same my 3040 v2.2 does not show up the nikon d810 i flashed the firmware v2 factory and upgrade. I am able to see the wifi on network but even after connecting with the laptop/android phone the qdslrdashboard app does not show anything i have tried on 3g/wisp connecting the device to nikon d810 but still nothing

Succeeded! After flashing MR3020 V.3.2 with tp_recovery.bin firmware (openwrt-19.07.7-ramips-mt76x8-tplink_tl-mr3020-v3-squashfs-tftp-recovery) for versions 3.x, it became possible to connect a Nikon D810 SLR camera to it via USB. Then I found the "OpenWrt" wi-fi network of our MR3020 without Internet access on my smartphone, connected to it, entered the qDslrDashboard program on the phone and O! MIRACLE! Now you can control the camera via a smartphone via a Wi-Fi connection wirelessly and without the Internet! Wi-fi adapter Comrades photographers, owners of Nikon D810, D750 and other models, Canon and Sony, I hope you find this message and it will help you!

The test in this video was actually using a Canon 6d body. As you can see the router performs much better then the cameras internal wifi.

I have a question for your awesome self! I'm starting out with mini components until I can upgrade each component with professional parts. I have good mics, etc, but am still running the audio into the iPhone to record the video till I can buy a DSLR, and I use the charging port with an adapter to HDMI (or if a smartphone, depending on the technology of the charging port, I have a MHL or Slimport technology Micro usb to HDMI that plugs into a 5" field monitor ($200). Can I somehow have my iPhone/LG G2 and plug the TP-Link into it somehow and then mirror my iPhone/android smartphone onto a tablet?? This is a much better, cheaper and more functional result. I would just have to find some kind of compatible adapter for the TP-link to plug into the charging port for the iPhone and a different adapter for the smartphone micro usb charging port-either slimport or MHL technology so that the TP-link can be connected to the phones and I can use the camcorder app to mirror to a tablet wirelessly. I know this a bit of an odd question since most have a DSLR and are not still using their phone's camera app-but it has HD video and works for me until I can up grade. Thank you in advance and I will and will continue to recommend your channel and on my new KZbin channel once up and running in a few weeks. I cannot that you enough! Gigi : ).

Hello, what if the android device doesn't allow remote control of dslr ? i have tried last year with a modified cable but something was missing from my android ROM. Do you have any idea if this works over wifi since the issue was related to USB on the device. Thanks.

DSLR controller via wifi works with any device that'll let you install DSLR controller. Just make sure your device has wireless N or you'll end up with some really slow frame rates.

Check the DSLR controller (for Android) site for a list of compatible cameras and devices. Although I believe the device list is incomplete and relies on 3rd party testing. For instance, I have a Samsung Galaxy Tap pro that isn't listed but enough similar Samsung devices are listed that I'm reasonably sure it will work with my tab. The wifi router should be compatible with any canon dslr.

The little thing is impressive for sure👍 It also works with IOS and with Nikon. I have only testet with Nikon D800 but if the camera has the special Nikon port or a usb port it should work just fine. Nikon also sells an orig. for apx. 3.000 usd but the tp-link has a ton of features is fairly easy to set up, works really well and..... is only 30$😀 The trick is to connex from your tablet witch is easy and you are in buseness.

There is a media player built in to dslr controller, but you'd have to download each clip via wifi which would take a lot of time and make the operation impractical.

Hi, any ideas on magic lantern's setup for liveview, if any? Not showing image when using ML, though it works perfect when not using ML. I've read on ML's forum it works over USB, but no sign about wireless connection with tp-link router.

Hi guys, Yesterday we’ve start using TP Link with DSLR Controller on our cameras. Despite all this great idea and awesome job, we figured out a small problem. When we use more than one TP link in same area, we have more than one SSID with same name, so the tablets will have difficulties to know who is who. I don’t know if this is the right place for this comment but the suggestion is that the firmware could be able to generate a random bunch of numbers in the end of the SSID, like: DSLRController-123456. Thanks and well done!

DSLR controller has an imageview and download feature. Just make sure you have enough room on your android device and the time to wait for wifi transfer.

Its not horrible, you can view an image from your camera in 15 or 20 seconds on wireless n.
