I love DiRT Rally 2.0 but without the DLC it doesn't get the gritty feel of real life rally. Just like WRC: Rally Evolved, my favorite rally game of all time. I love Wales in DiRT Rally 2.0 because (In most places) it looks really gritty and feels like a classic rally experience.

In DR2 to make the visuals that little bit better, you just need to add water. Racing with wet surface (not even raining, just wet) is amazing, you can see the water buildup in the ruts, and there's splash effects when you hit them. It's great! As far as the inconsistent braking you mentioned, that is intentional. Each stage has over 200 different levels of stage degradation, simulating how the surface would degrade after a few dozen rally cars rip through it. That'll be why you were getting less braking in those vital corners, the dirt was all chopped up from the 20 or so rally cars that came before you. You can turn it off in the menu, or you can set it to "authentic" or "optimal". Just adds to the challenge and variety of rally!

That kind of attention to detail is great, but if that's so - all corners should show that same lack of braking power, since all cars are braking in the same areas and causing the same track wear.

I got this game via PlayStation plus and it immediately brought me back to the days of wrc on the psp since this was the first rally game I had. It was challenging as hell but isn't that rallying irl

I totally agree with the issues with the brakes. Although I've gotten used to it after a week of playing it. It's a great game but sometimes it does get boring when you're racing on the same track with the same car constantly. I might consider getting a dlc just so I wouldn't have to be on the same track every time.

Where you need to brake most = where other drivers need to brake most = much worse track condition on that part = less grip for tires = longer braking distances.

I think your very last point was your best - If you’re on PS Plus, go grab it this month. Can’t argue with it as a free game. I’ll probably play it for a couple more weeks, maybe finish the career and leave it there. Decent game, solid review 👍

I was looking forward to Dirt Rally 2.0 to due to how excellent the first game was, and especially with the new terrain deformation affecting how your car handles not seen since Sega Rally in 06. But then I saw the DLC model they have adopted I it really put me off. It just feels unnecessary and greedy to me especially when a lot of the DLC are cars and locations that were in the original game.

Yeah, the dlc policy was awful, they gave us season 1-2 that had almost everything recycled from Dirt Rally 1.0 (still good to have). At the time, at launch, I bought the game for Xbox One S, deluxe edition and it didn't play or look very well due to hardware limitations. After few months I finally got a PC and bought the deluxe again (game's awesome, also there was a discount) and then suddenly they pulled out seasons 3-4 with some cool content (a lot still recycled but some truly new stuff) that had to be bought even if you had deluxe and they even made "super deluxe edition" (might've as well called it deluxe deluxe lol). Still bought the seasons though. Thankfully the Flatout pack was free for me because that's easily the most money I spent on a single game. Also, now you can get GOTY edition that has everything in at lower price.

@@piotrgti96 Yeah it sucks if you're paying full price but you can get the full game with all DLC for as little as $16 on PC (and the base game is currently free on PS+ and included with PC/Xbox Game Pass). Plus they made the Colin McRae addon free to owners of any of the DLC seasons.

I enjoyed that review. I do agree with some of the things you find positive and negative but also disagree with you on some. And I'll actually subscribe as I like to support you. Agree: 1. The Evolution Studio WRC games were absolutely fantastic to play back in the day. WRC3 and 4 are still my favourites. 2. The locations and different weather conditions in general look great texture-wise. 3. I do feel that they went a bit too far when it comes to the bloom and so on and should be toned down a bit to look more realistic. However, it doesn't really bother me though so I don't really mind it. It's still easy on the eyes. The new WRC game is in my opinion too bright to the point that it actually started hurting my eyes after an hour when I played the demo. Keep in mind that my eyes are one of the few parts of my bodey that are in perfect working condition. There was no option to lower it ingame so I actually had to go and adjust my TV settings. 4. I have had some inconsistency with braking as well but that's only when I set off at the start of a stage. I need to push my pedal very hard a few corners and then they work fine. When I restart the stage immediately afterwards, they work perfectly fine from the first corner. It's strange. It's as if the game needs to warm up the brakes the first time you set off. Disagree: 1. The DLC is indeed something many people weren't all too happy about, especially when it came to the locations from the previous DiRT Rally being included. However, those locations and cars underwent serious updates (graphically and physics-wise) and were of great quality so personally I didn't mind paying for it. Besides, for official competitions like the DiRT Rally World Series qualifiers and quarter finals, they only used locations that were in the base game so that everyone could compete. Basically, the choice was yours as a player whether you wanted to buy it or not. You weren't forced. And I think they did it the right way and not just put the update the DR locations in the game with brand new locations with brand new locations as DLC. 2. It is about multiplayer because clubs championships created by the community for example eventually became the main attraction and the reason why so many people still play it today. But it is indeed not like what younger people are used to in the form of jumping into a lobby and racing against one another at the same time. There is an option for that but nobody actually uses it much. 3. I actually like the way the 3D models of the cars look, very detailed. I do feel that the colours should pop out a bit more. I don't mean like beaming but deeper or more contrast. When I take screenshots for promotional material, I always use the auto colour/contrast button in GIMP/Photoshop and the results are always better, more like they would be in real life. Probably has something to do with that bloom etc. Extra: When it comes to the cameras, I do understand your point but it's something which for me personally is irrelevant.

It reminds me of the old days when i played Collin McRea on PC, i believe the first version. Had the list GHT green cover, dang i played that game so much

The braking issue, is also a problem on the F1 games (both by Codemasters) it makes it almost impossible to be consistent. To solve it you need to change the Brake Linearity setting and all that stuff.

I think the problem with the chase cams nowadays might be that they follow the rotation of the car too closely? Old games used to have way more sideways rotation in chase views, like GT 1&2, Colin McRae Rallys and such (Destruction Derby had way too much, and you couldn´t see ahead in turns properly)

Got it not long after release and being loving the game. Love the content and the DLC gives more variety and if you buy one of the seasons you will get the Colin Mcrae pack for free which is worth it

I guess the camera is a bit weird but for a sim 90% of people are not going to float outside of the car. I've not noticed the brake problem, then again I use a wheel and no ABS so I cant say it doesn't exist on a pad or with ABS. Biggest problems for me are the stages are not varied enough without DLC (If the current stages had more hazards on them it would make it interesting, water Splashes, deep mud, even crashed competitors cars like in Rally evolved etc...) And the Tarmac stages have no feel to them through a wheel, feels the same as the dirt but with more grip. And lastly it was bloody cheeky of them to lessen the content from the first game and then charge you for it in DLC, that's some B.s. Other than that I've been playing it alot recently, gets the heart beat going for sure lol

I got WRC8 last year amazing stages, but man the car selection in this is tantalizing, guess I’ll pick it up game of the year edition seems a reasonable bargain (free with ps plus without the dlc is not much game)

Bought it a few months back when the deluxe version was on offer. Love the game. Hate that there’s so much content locked behind the DLC though. I mean I got the 4 seasons of dlc with the deluxe but i would not be happy with the amount of cars and tracks on the base game

I expected a slightly different opinion, since like Assetto Corsa (which wasn't received positively by you) this game requires good steering wheel since it's full sim (I heard that WRC 8 is more realistic, though). I own first entry on PC and haven't really spent much time on it. I don't know about this one, but... man, it has a rally Porsche... I heard that this game had major issues with content at the release (good thing that it's better now).

I wouldn't have bought this game but I downloaded it for free on ps plus as its a car game. On the whole I enjoy it. Its a rally game so mostly just chasing the clock. But wow rally cross is fun! Even the front wheel drive corsa/clios!

"It's free, you got nothing to loose" Yep, exept for 75gb of space) I'm playing it now (pre-downloaded, thankfully) and at first had some struggles with rwd cars. My biggest issue is tire changing. See, I dont know when I'll get a chance to change the tires, and when I change them, next stage after that is heavy rain... And brakes, yes, especially on the wet asphalt

You can view the stages coming up while you're in your stage location, generally every 2 stages you go back to your stage location. I've never needed anything other than soft tyres though, and you only get wet tyres on tarmac stages if needed.

Right before you start your first race at a location there is a bar near the bottom of the screen which you can scroll through with L1 & R1. Scroll to the one that shows the track and hit square. It show what track is next and the weather conditions for each as well as track length and when the next service stop is. Just remember if it just rained the next stage will most likely be wet even though is says it's not raining.

I feel like the handling can get a bit floaty, or I'm just garbage ahahha, the graphics are quite nice, but the liveries look straight out crew2 and very pale, the car selection is good, but the Lancia cars for instance don't have Martini liveries, wtf is that, yeah, I just don't like the handling, an Audi feels just the same as an opel corsa, that shouldn't be the case, this happens in most codemaster games, quantity>quality

what annoy me the most in that gane is: the cars have the same drive feeling on Termac as on Dirt , the hyper complicted setup car mess? or even for the steeringwheel configuration..Thats too much 2000´s thing to me. and the online doesnt exist...(is not eficient)/useless. So I get sick n tired of that game in 20 minutes. (sorry my english- Im Pt)
