Tbh I feel we've reached a disconnect between what is fun to play with controller and what is realistic. The two are desperately incompatible and the sim rig community shows us that once you start investing in this hobby seriously it opens up, otherwise you've hit a glass ceiling with the controller with regards to feel and clearly, imagination too. I think as a result the direction in the genre is muddles, no one knows what they want from the genre and well no one is putting out what I think is most needed. You only have to look at the F1 games of recent years to know that developers are more interested in cold hard cash than providing a standout game for their fans. F1 22 was deplorable, particularly for controller players and had a lot of bugs in it that had been fixed in later patches of F1 2021 but inextricably showed up again in F1 22. And mods are great for those who play on PC but us console plebs shouldn't have to wallow in the mud. Why can't anyone just make a really good racing game that works well on both controller and Sim rig that doesn't require any modding out of the box? Surely that's not too much to ask!

The WRC license is gonna go to Codemasters in 2023 so this game is probably kind of a swansong where kylotonn puts a lot of what they made into one package. I imagine they had to get it out before 2023 because of the license thing, so it makes sense that it's buggy since they wouldn't have been able to delay it and will probably have been on quite a tight schedule.

I literally cant use it at all, as in 80% of the cases the car start spinning. I went crazy on one corner, tried 20 times and it feels like once you pull the hand break the front wheels stop running and the car became rear wheels only, with a huge push from a side. I spent 2 hours from my life to setup this game to make work without stuttering (it is only work at 60 or 120 fps) and to feel the wheel somewhat realistic, then i got into Carlos's Celica to drive in the snow - which I like most in rally games - after which I was devastated by the recognition that I had wasted 2 hours of my life... Yes, the throttle works annoying not just when you want to accelerate, but when you release the throttle the car brakes like you drive on tarmac. The wheels also making a sliding sound, it's ridiculous. The other thing what made me instantly ALT+F4 the game is when you drift in a fast corner and expect that the car will come out of the corner with full throttle thanks to the 4WD turbo, you will probably end up in the ditch. Instead, you have to release the gas and the drift is reduced... It is the worst thing you can do in the real car. I hate games that cause false fixation on that level, because likely that's how we will act on in an IRL emergency. Great video Jimmy!

@boaandarrows2 жыл бұрын
@@marv2507 Yeah that is probably how they are thinking, but I'm not sure they realise that many people will remember them for the last iteration. Take Danger Close Games for example, they were tasked with making a couple of the command and conquer games, as well as many of the Medal of Honor games. When they were tasked with the 2010 reboot of Medal of Honor, it was seen as a positive attempt at moving the franchise forward. When they made MOH Warfighter in 2012 however, it got pummeled by all of its critics for it's broken and buggy nature, as well as how boring and unoriginal the game was. Within a year of the game coming out, only a day 1 patch had been released, the studio had been dissolved (shut down in fancy terms), and Medal of Honor had been "taken out of rotation". While I don't believe Kyloton has made anywhere near as bad a game as Danger Close did, the reviews and videos coming out about Generations that take a stance like Jimmer's are leaning to suggest they did, If they decide they don't want to fix these issues, that is their choice, but it may well be their ending legacy.

This is a good video. I'd love to say I agree with everything you've said but unfortunately I STILL can't play it. Assetto Corsa has been my "rally game" for the last couple of years. I love the handling model on tarmac and depending on the car mod even gravel feels decent. It's a shame that the rally stages don't have the same level of eye candy Dirt Rally has, but it's fun to drive nonetheless.

Agree with everything you've said. It's like they started with the base code from WRC 10 without any of the patches. It's almost like they didn't do any testing, especially when it comes to the steering wheels. Compared to Dirt or Dirt Rally I never have liked the feeling of the car in any WRC game. I seem to be constantly chasing the wheel setups and they seem to change everytime I restart the game. I really agree with you about floating on tarmac. It seems to be one extreme to the other. One session I'm floating and the next there's too much grip.

You should do more of these types of critique videos, Jimmy. Good or bad views. Doesn't matter. Developers are getting away with actual fraud and robbery these days with the shit they pump out. It should be a criminal offense to release something that is not advertised or is in a broken state. But alas, here we are. They'll keep doing it so long as people keep handing them their money.

Thank you Jamble for making the video, been watching your streams as well and it is just so disappointing how much stuff is broken and/or missing from the game. I have WRC9, DR2 and RBR so this release won't be ending up in my library. I hardly play WRC9 as is because of some of the quirks, biggest one being that lighting thing that is seemingly fixed now but replaced with other issues. I am especially glad you brought up the the setups being wack. I don't have much time to play games so when I get the time to play i want to spend that time driving and having fun, not messing with a setup that I know nothing about and don't have time to learn. I am totally fine with a default setup being 80% of ideal, I can work with that but to give a crippling setup as default sucks. Just because I enjoy sim racing doesn't mean I have hours to dial in setups just to be able to enjoy the driving and feel like I am driving a car. It is all such a bummer because I have gotten so tired of doing the same stages over and over in DR2 and RBR suffers from having too much to where I don't know what to play. The time I spent on WRC9 was a lot of fun, the stages were more interesting than DR2, the driving was fun, having modern WRC cars was amazing that I really wished this release and WRC10 for that matter were just flat out better and could be my de-facto rally game. They are just too incomplete or weirdly broken for that to be true though.

As someone who has played Dirt Rally 2, but hasn't touched any of the previous WRC games (mainly because I couldn't get WRC 10 to work 🤣), I've found this game to be an absolute blast. Graphics are great, sound is absolutely fine, handling is good, stage design is epic. I haven't hesitated to recommend this to everyone, with the caveat that (as with every new release it seems) there may be issues. As to regurgitating content. EA has been at the forefront of publishing the same game year on year since the 1990's. To be honest, what else are KT supposed to do with the WRC licence? Let's see what EA can innovate with the licence for the next few years. It's not perfect, but in my experience it has been 100% FUN. But I'm not a sim racing perfectionist.

Synthetic couldn’t have been a more perfect word when it comes to the sounds, you left out the stage sounds as well (gravel, tar, snow, and etc) and that is what my personal attraction point is with any racing experience and in especially dirt rally 2 with gorgeous sounds all around but that’s something that this franchise has struggled with for so long. I was really hoping this final send off for a game would be the best but there’s still things in the previous titles that I would pick over Generations. At least i’m having fun for the most part but it’s understandable as to why people aren’t. Praying they’ll be on top this as soon as possible.

Nice review, especially nailed the last part; releasing a game in such state is insulting... this cannot be the standard. It's ridiculous ; some of these bugs make you think they didn't even test it at all. Sound bugs were easiest to spot yet didn't even bother and released it anyway. They copy pasted code from their old game (including the bugs) and moved on with the release. I wish everyone would refund so they get the point. And they have yet to acknowledge any of those issues/bugs. They just don't care.

I've been really enjoying WRC Generations, but its also the first WRC game I've played, and the first rally game I've played in a long time. But the longer you play the more you notice the oddities. I just finished the power stage in Portugal which is a head to head race. The opponent car finished ahead of me by a good few seconds, and I had a 5 second time penalty for going out of the track limits, but I apparently won the race by 1 second. Unless the opponent had a penalty (maybe possible but I don't think there's a way to check) then that just can't be true. Maybe the times are skewed because I'm only on 120% difficulty. The other notable moment would be in Sweden when another car was pulled over on the side and a wheel in the middle of the course instantly booted the car into a roll.

Jimmy... my dear Jimmy , first of all, I honestly do love your videos. HOWEVER, I have a couple points for you: 1. I heard you say at least three times in this 14:28 video that WRC generations is basically the same game as previous versions. I have a question. Does this honestly surprise you? It suffers from the same thing that pretty much all licensed games suffer from. It's literally rinse, repeat, give us your money (see madden NFL, FIFA, NBA2k as examples of this problem). Welcome to the world of licensed games. 2. I think you, yourself, would be considered a sim racer correct? You call WRC a sim game in this video. You want 85 percent of your set up work done for you? Come on bro, I would put that at ARCADE level games. If you honestly want 85 percent of your setup work done for you so you can have a good setup, I'm gonna have to revoke that sim racer card lol. 3. This is something I have been screaming from the mountain tops for years. You say at the very beginning of this video that features in the game are either broken, not there, etc. Honestly, all I can say to this is get used to it. This is the generation of gaming that we live in now. Believe me, it isn't going to change. Why isn't it going to change? Because gamers of this generation can't handle delays, games being pushed back for improvements etc. Any delay and they automatically tweet, or stream "The developers lied to us" like content. Another reason is honestly because of streamers, youtubers etc saying they love the game etc. Believe it or not, youtubers and streamers like yourself and others have a massive amount of influence over people buying games, or products that you like, or don't like. Sadly though until gamers start refusing to accept mediocrity, this is what we're stuck with. Half finished products, and shitty games altogether.

i felt like it was the opposite problem to what DR 2.0 (the tarmac just felt like gravel with more grip). The gravel in WRC:G just feels like slippery tarmac, handling feels way too floaty, no sense of tyres digging into the gravel.
@mod7930 Жыл бұрын
@@luxie8097 I agree. In WRC Gen the handling on tarmac feels a bit like tarmac. But, the handling on gravel also feels like tarmac. The car handling, on a controller, feels sluggish, the cars feel too heavy. Everything feels soft, i.e. the landings after a bump or a jump are soft and the collisions with rocks, trees, barriers feels soft. A poor game and nowhere near as good as WRC 10.

Thanks for the honest review, Jimmy. I've bought a few Kylotonn WRC games over the years and have felt let down on every occasion. Last year I got WRC10 on Xbox One S and put in plenty of hours before concluding either my eyes were broken or there was something amiss with the framerate. It was the closest I had ever gotten to travel sickness. I switched over to Dirt 2.0 and it was like I'd just had corrective eye laser surgery. Additionally, WRC 10 felt poor with my wheel and sounded asthmatic. Gotta say though, Kylotonn did a great job on stage design, in fairness. I was kinda tempted by Generations, if it were to appear on sale for €20, as I now have a PS5, but I've now decided there's no point throwing good money after bad. Fingers crossed Codies/EA work their magic when they pick up the WRC license.

This is the issue with most franchises, like Milestone's MotoGP and EA's Fifa. Every year they come out with what's basically a repackaged patch. And it's always a crap shot. Some improvements here, some non improvements there... What drives you insane is the issues that people have pointed out for years that never get fixed, and when they remove feature that were good (EA removing the save replay option in Fifa on PC is just one of many examples). The problem is that enough people buy the games every year so the companies don't feel that they need t make a huge effort, and then there's the time constraint because they have to come out with a new title every year... (do they really though?). So they end up with some fancy marketing and slap on a bit off superficial paint...

How the turntables? Literally the opposite commentary on EA WRC game, and a carelessness about it being realistic or not. But when it comes to WRCG all guns come out, how unrealistic and bad it is... Also recommending DR2 instead of this game is funny, since DR2 is even less realistic and much more of a borefest. I'm just pointing out this hypocrisy, I know I'm being a bit to aggro about it, but just annoyed about this Codemasters/EA riding, when they have only baited the community with the first DR, and then released a worse and easier version in terms of physics and driving, just to appeal to broader crowd and using the goodwill acquired by DR to do this (which was also very predictable that they would do it, I even remember thinking exactly this playing DR). DR2 in general is not even a good game overall, many issues with it, Codemasters deserve very little praise.
@peronohaynada Жыл бұрын
For a brand new game, all this issues are tolerable, but not for a game series that should be an expert by now, even more when it's clearly that they built every game on top of the previous ones. If they didn't meet their goals prior the dead line and had to release whatever they had, it is just sad. I'd recommend them to do a retrospective and identify what went wrong during the development cycle, cause it's clear that they have a lot of issues. Thanks for this review Jimmer!

The game just ignores the fact you selected semi auto over Manual but only when u set up your car?? Also in career when ur half way through a rally it sometimes it doesn’t let you see the current times of all the drivers so it’s hard to judge if u need to really push or not in the next stage and it’s impossible to guess when u play 150% ai.
